Halifax

Isn't he lovely?

And cheeky. And bloody bright. And more than a bit of a dude(punky left wing bird watching naturalist).

Never realised he had so many issues in his life though. God speed to him I say!

Personally I find him self righteous and arrogant , lives in his own world where everything is perfect and his views are all that counts , he doesn't like to look at the bigger picture .

I just googled him. I didn't realise he has Asperger's syndrome. But you described an Aspie perfectly, which made me go and check!

It's not done deliberately. But obsession of the details and not being able to look at the bigger picture is a huge part of the condition. As is not accepting other viewpoints that differ to yours.

It's like being pissed off at someone in a wheelchair because they can't walk.

But over focus is what makes him good at science/nature/animals and stuff.

(I loved him when I was a kid, but I haven't followed him recently so couldn't comment further than that.)

...Up on the Downs

I just had to google him 'cos I didn't know the name - I think he's one of the most pretentious twats on TV!

Had to google him as well, even though i don't actually know how i ended up in this topic.

I thought he'd killed himself years ago but he's still alive.

I'm not overly keen although i did once spill his beer over him in a nightclub once, so i doubt he's overly keen on me.

That did amuse me.

"I find him patronising and smug "

I've found him the same and atrocious viewing.

He's been suicidal, is on the autism spectrum and likely means well though. I admire his honesty.

London and Essex

I remember years ago there was an urban myth that Packham has his hair cut under general anaesthetic because he has super-sensitive hair and the cutting would be too painful otherwise. Some talk about it can be found on google. Probably nonsene, but maybe it's really real!

PS here's Packham and Strachan being filthy on Autumnwatch. Poor old Nutkins would never have allowed this

"I thought he'd died n' all..."

Are you thinking of Mark Speight? He was blonde and on kids TV around the same time as Chris Peckham. He committed suicide in 2008.

People on the spectrum are notoriously sensitive to pain…their brains are wired differently so have hyper sensitive senses. I know someone who finds parting their had in a different place painful
