In tv adverts the females are all slim, attractive and intelligent but the reality in Britain is very different. UK women are the most overweight in Europe. Are males in this country being lied to? Should tv adverts reflect real UK women?

And males are of course hopeless cretins who couldn't change a lightbulb, there's never a 'man of the house' portrayed in any adverts, any attempt at DIY will inevitably end in disaster, which of course the company being advertised can fix.

This of course, is constantly overlooked.

Oh, ripped, tanned young men being coerced into taking their tops off by women wanting to ogle them is of course not sexist or belittling to males at all - if a woman were shown in the same way, the uproar would be deafening.

I don't know if you know, but adverts are to try and sell products. They aren't there to reflect British life?

I'm really lost on this one. Do people really believe adverts? Is it like when people think soap operas are real and hassle the characters in the street for "what they did to that poor Eileen on Wednesday"?

You may think you're onto something there OP, but a couple of years ago, when Carling tried their pitch:

"Carling, 'cos after 6 pints, even that fat lass in the corner will look do-able, and you know you're desperate, so go on, have a couple more..." apparently they got slated and dropped it before most people even saw the advert.

It's a harsh world, advertising...

Also, are the men of Britain too stupid to use their own eyes when walking round matalan or do they walk around holing advertising pictures up so as not to be confronted with the horror of the real world?

One would think in this techno age that someone would invent a device that mutes the telly when ads appear.

There was a fillum with Tom Cruise where ads would appear holographically and identify the person as they walked along a street, that will probably happen. If you click on stuff your interweb knows it and relevant pop-ups appear so we're halfway there.

If it does then this guy is clearly being lied to and you should all stop slagging him off!.

If it doesn't, then you really should stop fucking moaning about racist 70s TV shows having a bad influence!

of course TV has an influence, that is why so many people have body dysmorphia because they are not body beautiful but that isnt what the OP was asking, he is asking are you being lied to because the women on tv do not equate to the women in your local tescos?

TV ads aren't documentaries you know

They may influence people but they are not intended for people to take everything on them as factual

Take the galaxy advert I don't think the makers are suggesting women get off buses and into cars with total strangers just because she does on the add

Common sense is needed too and common sence tells you real world and telly world isnt one of the same

I always get them mixed up

The 'turkey' guy.

The comedian(ahem)guy was Bernard Manning.

Thank you for clearing that up

I don't know the answer to your question though

Damn. Can you Google it for me? I know I could myself, but where would the fun in that be..?

Coca cola is the most recognisable brand in the world, it's estimated that 8 out of 10 people in the world could recognise it and what the product is.

They still spend hundreds of billions on tv commercials.

Either there just throwing money away Willy nilly or they know it has a defining effect on the subconscious

it might just be me but i really fail to see the relevance of any of your posts on here.

no one is saying that adverts and TV have no influence on buying power of people, there wouldn't be a mutli billion pound industry based on it if there wasnt....the point of the OP was are you being lied to because all the models used are beautiful slim women, not fat heffers like most of the population?

Adverts for tell you its the most amazing drink in the world but we all know that isnt true (cos its pepsi max ), adverts for tampons tell you you can go zip lining in the rain forest when you are on your period but i have yet to find the tickets to do so as i reach for the bathroom cabinet each month.

Don't get me started on Coca Cola ads... Sat under a tree with my can of 'real ', pulled the ring, listened to the escaping hiss, exited, getting ready for what comes next... Then nothing, absolutely diddly squat, zilch... Not one blooming hunk, (with his shirt on, let alone without) came running by, definitely no gardener, nope, nothing, not one bloody hunk in sight of any shape or form. Absolutely gutted, i can tell you, knew I should've gone with the Pepsi!!!

"My fave m mis-representative adds are the online bingo ones which show gorgeous, adventurous, fun loving women running around having fun with their beautiful friends.

And somehow this sells bingo to women sitting at home on their own in a onesie watching Jerremy Kyle and eating lard sandwhiches.

Who the fuck eats lard sarnies

We used to as kids.

We'd get bread and wipe the frying pan clean.

Lovely.

My little brother had a heart attack at 8 though so this practice was soon finished. "

I remember my mum eating 'sugar butties'! White bread, marge - dipped in sugar! Truly revolting - but she's never been overweight! X

Interestingly Coke are moving with the times:

50 years ago their bottles were shaped to mimic the 'perfect' curves of an 'ideal' woman.

Today in Iceland I saw a 3 litre bottle that definitely looked clinically obese

"Are you saying that British men are too stupid to distinguish between reality and the advertising world? "

Are you saying that, faced with a picture of a scantily-clad, attractive, young woman, a man might be able to hold a rational, sensible thought process? I'm sorry to disappoint, but there isn't enough blood available to successfully work both ends at the same time....

(Or is that just me?)

Except adverts that are made to make women feel insecure.

Yes, British men are so gullible

Because they all have their sky remote in their hands, six packs out, gym memberships full of stars and think about the women next to them

Who have had their babieS, fed them for 6 months so their boobs have done intended job and are often a bit less perky... And think? I wish I was married to Katie price/whatever shore actress full of Botox by 25....
