Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum |
"OK its bank holiday and a lot will be heading to the seaside and getting fish and chips. But where's the best one? I think its the magpie whitby "
Nah, they're nothing special any more, and too expensive for what you get. I prefer the one on the front at Scarborough. |

Whitby yes. But not the magpie. Go over the bridge away from the magpie and just on the corner on the right is a lovely fish and chip restaurant. Best I've ever tasted. But be prepared to queue |

"I was outraged to be served frozen chips once in Llandudno
Frozen chips are the preserve of kebab shops not seaside chippies "
I think I was in that shop about 15 years ago.....it was barnacles and that has a good name in the N/east.. but that was minging |

"Why at the coast do they seem unable to skin the fish? "
Because most inland f+c shops use frozen blocks of ready skinned...whist a lot of coastal towns use fresh caught fish. |

Most of the chippys in Whitby are very good, some better value than others. I agree the one at the south end of the prom in Scarborough is excellent or was the last time I had them. There used to be a really good one at Heysham head going back a good few years. |

"Most fish served in our fish shops is not even from our own waters
Does that really matter? Much of the catch from our fishing industry is exported."
A lot of our produce is. Fruit for example. Wine. Beer. |

You go to France and order their delicacy of snails or frogs legs to eat.
Would you expect them to be imported?
I would expect them to be local produce not imported.
