Are terms such as Anti-Semitism and Islamaphobia racist? If you hate all white/black/asian etc. people that is racism. If you hate all French/Russian/Australian etc. people that is xenophobic.

So what is the word for people who hate a particular religion?

Do you want a history lesson?

Xenophobia is a Greek word - 'xenos-' (foreigners) and '-phobia' (fear of).

The ancient Greeks were remarkably racist, the Romans considerably less so.

Anti-semitism enjoyed considerable support in Europe during the Middle Ages, although this, like other acts of persecution, had more to do with religion than race, per se.

It's not until you get to the 19th century that the idea of anti-semitism is invented (funnily enough in Germany) and this residual, medieval hatred is given a specific name.

It's instructive that around this time, the age of Empires, sees concerted efforts to start theorising about race and pigeonholing various crude stereotypes into a delicate hierarchy - with the white (probs Aryan) at the top.

Then we hit the 20th century and the Holocaust and we see a movement towards Human Rights (world declaration in 1948)...

So now we live in a 'post-modern' world where we supposedly understand various types of intolerance and what it is permissible to say and not say - so now we have new words for old suspicions, like 'Islamophobia.'

It's all about where you are linguistically in time.

That's all.

No religious prejudice or hatred is not racist, reason is simple religions are not races.

To be racist you need to have prejudiced views about 1 or more of the races.

I am always amused by white supremacists who believe they are racially superior to those from Arabia, Turkey, The Horn of Africa and much of Asia although all these people are Caucasian just like them.

Maybe the correct way to describe religious hatred is bigotry.

I think a single word, with the meaning that you're seeking, has yet to be created and to enter mainstream English use.

This is all pc nonsense, drivel, utter crap, it is only identified when you actually say it.

saying something and thinking something are completely different, many politicians & MP's will say something (to ensure they are pc) but will "think" something completely different

until "thought control" is developed and established then we will never know the true thoughts and intentions of anyone, this is simply down to the pc brigade, it would be much better if people could actually speak there minds and thoughts without fear of being branded

Islamophobia is one of those over used misnomers.

A phobia is an irrational fear. I don't think it's irrational to be afraid of people who want to blow you up.

I know not all muslims want to blow us khuffars up, but if you say anything about islam, you are often branded islamophobic.

I don't know what the term is for being prejudiced against a religion is, but yes religions are not races.

Almost by definition, the followers of any religion are prejudiced against all the other religions, as invariably, their holy doctrines state that theirs is the only true god and anyone not believing is a heretic/apostate/khuffar etc.

Don't follow religion. Zero are the amount of fucks I give about it or their 'imaginary...omnipotent' faith figures. For my mind, it causes more trouble than it helps - these divisive problems are caused by stupid people.

Hating something that isn't there, in itself, is stupid.

Believing in something that isn't there...each to their own but leave people be to do it if they're not doing any harm.
