Best bassline

There are more than a few musicians on here so what is everyone's favourite bass guitar lick? Mine has to be La Freak by Chic. Fantastic, intricate, precise and utterly funky bass playing by the sadly missed Bernard Edwards. Awesome bassist. |

"Lots of tunes by Primus
I like a lot muses bass lines too. And the bass solo from Metallica Orion"
Although if we move it slightly to bass drums..... Then it's the opening of Arise by Sepultura.
Igor Cavalera going full pelt on two bass drums - amazing |

Sir Psycho Sexy - Red Hot Chilli Peppers.
It just has that magic, slick, solid groove.
I played out at a couple of auditions in the past, and, always got the job. |

There's some great bass playing on Skun Anansie's Stoosh album, but it's hard to beat the old soul tract for epic bass-lines. I've always loved that little slap bass solo in Rose Royce's Car Wash.

"Propellerheads cover of the theme from OHMSS..."
Gets used to test every set of speakers I've ever bought! If they can handle that without turning into a flabby mess of crossed frequencies, I buy them! |

Best Basslines? Each to their own, but these three take some beating and two are super easy to play...Hysteria may take you a while to nail though ! lol
-'Hysteria' by Muse
-'Peaches' by The Stranglers
- 'Fools Gold' by the Stone Roses

"The walking bass line on '8 days a week' because McCartney sang at the same time as playing that! "
He did the same on I saw Her Standing There too, and plenty of others. Listen to him play and sing Another Day, on Wings over America.
He'll never get any credit on here though, because most are too young to remember him in his prime, and because he's Paul McCartney, and it's not cool to like Paul McCartney.
Favourite bass line? Well, strangely enough, Paul McCartney, on Georges song Something. So well worked out, it almost takes over the song.
George wasn't keen though. He said it was too busy. Can't agree with him there. |

"Nice "n" sleazy
The stranglers
Peaches"
Either of these have bass lines most modern bassists could only dream of playing. Play them Down in the Sewer and they'd give up playing altogether! |

I learned the 8 days a week bass line and feel he actually wrote it so he could sing at the same time. Once I got the timing sorted singing and playing was pretty easy. And yes 'something' was quite something. Very prog rock! |

I wouldn't call anything I like 'The Best', but I really like SIMPLE MINDS "Colours Fly and Catherine Wheels". "Theme for Great Cities" is pretty cool, too.
Although I'm not a fan of theirs, I was surprised years ago when I saw a commercial for DURAN DURAN's Greatest Hits. I kind of just rolled my eyes, but when I heard some of the sound bites, I was very impressed by the bass lines.
A lot of the Punk I like has cool bass parts, but they aren't technically great....it's just that they are punchy and loud.

"Some good shouts on here, especially Stranglers and Pixies.
But come on, no mention of Hooky?
True faith is one of my all time favourite bass parts. Simple but powerful.
"
Not the best example of his craft imho. Earlier stuff - temptation, age of consent and most joy division tracks show him in a better light! |

I have to agree. Very talented musician, especially considering how young he was in the Joy Division years. |

I disagree slightly, Hooky has gotten better with age IMO.
I have seen him recently at last years Victorious festival with Peter Hook and the Light, great performance and his bass lines were amazing.
My favourites are as follows:
Nicky Wire, I love his bass on the Manics cover of Umbrella.
Krist Novoselic. Love his bass on Aneurysm.
Bruce Foxton. Most songs by the Jam.
Tina Weymouth on Psycho Killer.
Kim Deal on Monkey gone to heaven & Gigantic.
My all time favourite bassist is Tim Commerford. Amazing bassist for both RATM & Audioslave.

Some great contributions to this thread. Just heard something I'd forgotten but with a fantastic bassline. New England by the sadly missed Kirsty McColl. Fantastic bass in that. Don't know who played on it. |
