Discussed at a recent party and generally folk thought about 5% of sexually active couples. Hmmm...I have my doubts...what do others think?
My partner thinks about 10%

"I think there are many many more folk that do swing but would never discuss it with friends and colleagues!"
Both esitiantes in the op put swinging as more prevelent than homosexuality.
I find that hard to belive |

So what is the official percentage for being homosexual then? |

1.5% of the UK?
In its 'Integrated Household Survey', the Office for National Statistics asks 178,197 people about their sexual identity - and the vast majority of them choose to answer.
93.5% of people said they were 'heterosexual' or 'straight', just 1.1% said they were 'gay' or 'lesbian' and 0.4% said they were bisexual. The small fraction that was left either refused to answer or said they didn't know. Altogether, amounts to about 545,000 homosexual and 220,000 bisexual adults in the UK.
The claim that just 1.5% of people in Britain are gay, lesbian or bisexual will come as a surprise to some - even perhaps those in government. When they were analysing the financial implications of the new Civil Partnerships Act, the Treasury estimated it was 6%. Stonewall, a gay rights charity reckon that 5-7% "is a reasonable estimate".

But...
2015
In a Yougov survey of 1,632 adults, 5.5% identified as gay, 2.1% as bisexual, and 88.7% as heterosexual.[43] Asked to place themselves on the Kinsey scale, 72% of all adults, and 46% of adults aged 18–24 years, picked a score of zero, meaning that they identify as totally heterosexual. Four percent of the total sample, and 6% of young adults, picked a score of six, meaning a totally homosexual identity.[44]

And...
According to a new YouGov survey, 49% of 18-24 year-olds in Britain define themselves as something other than completely heterosexual. (2015)

"So... back to the original question...
.
What percentage of UK adults swing?
.
Firstly, define swinger - someone who has multiple partners would be mine.
Any advances?"
That's a bad definition - it encompasses every horny teenager...

The problem is still with the definition of "swinger".
Most definitions seem to suggest that a degree of openness and honesty between partners is necessary.
If we consider there are many couples who might only engage in an occasional threesome and therefore don't consider themselves "swingers" by the technical meaning of the term.
Also there are a number that are what I call "opportunistic swingers" meaning that if the it happens great, if it doesn't no big deal. They aren't out there actively looking for it, but if the opportunity presented itself one day with the right couple or single than it's game-on.
Then there those who do so behind their partner's back...
And all the cannon-fodder of single males who keep the subscriptions rolling in
I can't quite ask the question if I don't know what a "swinger" is.
How odd.
I'll have a think... |
