Ever been in a band? How far did you get?
Scientists of faith were my band, we played a few paid gigs in and around the Black Country from 1989 to 1991including the legendary JBs, we had more attitude than ability though and soon realised we were never going to make it, but what a ride for a 17-18 year old to be on, I would recommend it to anyone |

Same here. And played (music I hasten to add) on Songs of Praise. I live life on the edge.

I've always played in bands, currently I'm drummer for a local pub covers band, and I love to gig.
In my younger years, there were loads of original bands too. We'd been signed on three occasions, but sadly nothing ever really came from it.
Having said that though, I've played tome great gigs over the years, large theatres and night clubs and Unsigned Band tents at festivals.

Yay. Fellow music geek. Massively suppressing the urge to say "there was this one time, at band camp......." Largely because there wasn't! (I too was on Songs of Praise, singing though on a Remembrance Sunday one when I was in the RN). We're just so rock and roll Sarah!! ![](/icons/s/razz.gif) |

In our neck of the woos, a pub band gets on average £250 per night... so not really much of an income. |

Hubby has been in bands for years, mostly rock but he's a bit of whore so will play with anyone if the money's right
Done some touring in Europe before the family came along and now spends most of his weekends in the back of a van.

High, most certainly not uncool. What did you play?"
Cello and clarinet mostly. Not simultaneously, that would be silly. |

I was in a band called Red Rain at art college in Southampton. Way back in the early 80s. I made a pretence of being a singer and we did gigs around the student pubs. We thought we were great but looking back now , we were actually terrible. Good fun though for a 16/17 year old. |

I'm playing bass at the moment until the band finds a replacement, I would love to carry on but I look out of place being as the rest of the bands average age is 14 lol, but when your daughter calls for help, you do what you can, they don't have any gigs yet and I'm hoping they find a replacement befor they get a gig, I'd much rather be in the audience watching them and being a proud dad, than look like an old man trying to muscle in on his daughters talent |

The 80s were the best time to be in a band, it was all organic, and the only way to make it was to gig like mad, and send out your demo "tape" you realy felt part of something |

Yip. Played full time in the 90s (indie/ punk rock), had a deal (not a big one granted!) and continued up until 2012. Band had 2 singles of the week in NME, toured UK, parts of Europe and Japan. Last band (country-ish) got signed about a month after I left. Not that they do a lot with it. They're still going. Done three albums with them and a bunch of singles.
Still in the industry.

I played guitar and sang in a band during my Uni days. We did pubs and social clubs in the area around the Uni and a few more spiritually uplifting venues. It added a bit of beer money to the grant we got as students. Once I started working music sadly took a backseat and has never reemerged. |

I've considered it. The live music scene locally is good but I have other things filling my spare time for the moment . But I had my guitar out yesterday for the first time in a while and gawd was I rusty ?? |

But everyone knows drummers have to be transported to and from gigs in a special cage, otherwise they will eat their band mates, that's why they are at the back of the stage behind a drum kit, to stop them eating the audience lol |

I've been in loads.
One particular band we ended up supporting Suzy Quattro, The Troggs and Jools Holland. I even got to sit in with the Jools Holland Orchestra and play a few old blues and jazz tunes.
Nowadays if I have time I'll play at local jam nights and write and record my own music. |

Been in many bands but my most successful, want for a more appropriate word, was a Metal covers band called Turdbath. You tube the name and you'll find a few crappy videos and a interview I did for another bands documentary. Proudest moment was opening for a Death Metal band from the US who also stayed at my house after. They asked us to play with them again when they came back but my idiot rythm section for some reason refused to it. If I get that band back together then I will be using a different rythm section. The other thing was Dara O'brien off the telly talking about us. Although he called shit shower or something. |

Local Support bands got paid £50 back in the 90s, in the 00s they're still getting £50 - if they're lucky. Many have to sell tickets and take a cut.
Covers bands get ok money for what they do. I done it too to make a bit of extra cash. Was fun playing stuff you like.
Always grated on me that covers bands got paid more than originals and that DJs got paid more than both of those!

Tends to only be if they play with touring bands tho, if playing local venues they'd be lucky to get £20-30 depending if busy/sell out |

Would love a band but rehearsal space is expensive in London and finding folk who can coordinate schedules is near on impossible. Though still seeking a Vince Clarke/Chris Lowe/Nick Rhodes type whiz.
Have released some solo music. One track on vinyl, online singles and an EP on CD. Got two tracks on a compilation that's been released today too. |

Been in and have run my own bands, or solo/Duo stuff for over 35 years.
Went as far as Tokyo, and as far as Vancouver.
