there was a story on my FB feed this morning about a couple who arrived at Birmingham airport to catch their flights to Las Vegas...only to be told the flights that they had bought were leaving from Birmingham, Alabama 
has anybodys travel plans gone tits up because of silly mistakes...
travelling on wrong dates for example? |

all they had was the airport code, which was BHM, whereas the one they needed was BHX...
I know what they mean having worked in the travel industry but I doubt the average person would be aware that each and every airport has its own unique code  |

Sorry never answered.. No, closest I came to a disaster was showing up 20 minutes before departure on a flight from BOS to LHR. Luckily I was up front and only had hand luggage. Swanned on to pick up a glass of champers  |

When I was 17 I got on a train from Manchester to Leeds. When I was the only one left on the train and the only person about was a bloke sweeping the platform did I venture to ask where we were. Liverpool. Wrong direction, oops. I was such a thick 17 year old. |

Burning Man 4 (aka the Cursed Year). A group of us agreed to meet in a particular bar in San Francisco.
* The other half & I missed our flight from NYC as I confused the take off with the landing times - spent 4.5hrs on standby but we made it - very late.
* My American friend was in Canada, visiting friends. He fucked up because he took a flight to the wrong city - he went to St Johns instead of St John and spent a lot of money and an extra day to rectify his mistake.
* The other couple had problems getting out of the UK, missed their flight and ended up going via LA and were three days late.
* The one guy who made it on time, who we found crying into his White Russian, had just been the victim of credit card fraud and had no money.

What a great way to start a holiday.
It got worse.

Booked hotels in advance but actually booked the date I made the booking rather than when I actually wanted to stay. If that makes sense.
Made for an interesting and very expensive check in.

He went to an after work pissup ; then jumped on a train to Reading; fell asleep ; evoke ip in Bristol .
Chap on the platform said
" quick jump on that train, it's the last one going back up to Reading"
Do he did.
Fell asleep.
Woke up in London again .
Went back to his office and slept under the desk ."

He went to an after work pissup ; then jumped on a train to Reading; fell asleep ; woke up in Bristol .

My dad did something similar but not as far!
D*unk and thought he was being clever catching the train home rather than getting a bus.
Didn't realise they don't stop at our station on a Sunday so went flying past it.
Had to get a bus back home and fell asleep and missed the stop!
Think after that he gave up and rang my mum for a lift |

Couple of years ago we were packing our suitcases in a hotel in Hong Kong prior to leaving for the airport to fly back to Heathrow, when Mr checked the flight details and realised we should have flown the day before ! Whoops
Airline were cool about it we flew that night still and they just charged us a small admin fee |

I took off from Tegucigalpa in Honduras in an Antanov AN-225 Mriya, supposedly going to Mexico City and landed in Wichita, Kansas (a non-entry airport, former home of Boeing)....
Promptly arrested by INS, I was looking at the Russian Pilot, when he shrugged his shoulders, looked back at the giant aircraft in the middle of the runway, put his hands forwards to receive his handcuffs and said to the INS officer "You move it"

Not as big, but one of the first times in London for a meeting I had to get to edgeware road, and so just jumped on a tube thinking that'll be where the Edgware stop will be...it wasn't (they're miles apart it turns out)

Flew from Bangkok to Krabi and changed the flight return date at the airport. Did some heavy partying (another story) and got mixed up with the dates. Got to the airport for the return flight and they had no record of our booking, telling us that we would have to book at our cost. Further checking revealed that we should have flown the previous day, so we said that when we had changed the return flight that they had used the wrong date. They could not have apologised more and booked us on without charge - result! |

went to heathrow at the crack of dawn once for a 7:40 am flight, only to realise as we got into the airport and my mate handed out tickets the flights were at 19:40... was not impressed |
