This isn't a Android v iPhone post. Or a slanging match for either.
I've recently got an Android phone and finally mastered the basics of it and wondered are is/are the most useful Android apps to download.
Any ideas? |

May just need to get your network to allow access to "grown up" sites... you can either do it on the phone or in a shop, depending on which network you're with. |

There's an article on a site called Tech Radar called "40 best free Android apps" which is well worth a read... if you Google the article title and the name of the site, then you'll find it. |

There's an article written by one of the senior Android developers at Google, and she (yes, she!) explains why killing tasks is a bad idea on Android... it's called "Multitasking the Android Way" if you suffer from insomnia and fancy reading something to send you off to sleep
But I agree that the battery life on the HTC Desire (mine's not an HD one though) is pretty crappy. I switch off stuff like the animated wallpapers, disable wifi unless I'm using it, no bluetooth enabled, and restrict when apps can go online to check for updates as much as possible. I also have the screen on a fairly dim setting instead of the ultra-bright default setting.
I was getting better battery life but nothing amazing. I got the best improvement when I upgraded to FroYo and then when I installed something called Juice Defender. Now I can go about 2 days without having to recharge my battery. |

The one I would recommend to everyone is free AVG antivirus.
I'd only had my phone for 1 day when I dowloaded AVG, it found 1 virus instantly and several since.
I must stop going on these naughty sites lol |

I'd recommend RockPlayer which will play pretty much any video format you throw at it - great for catching up on TV shows as well as porn
I also use the Rail Planner which is very useful waiting at Paddington to see where the next train to South Wales will go from - I always find out a few minutes before it goes up on the board!
I've also got Amazon's Kindle software installed and am curently catching up on the complete Sherlock Holmes stories.
Probably most use to me has been the various Google mapping/GPS features - with Navigation so well integrated with my contacts, it's a piece of cake to use my HTC Desire as a sat-nav-plus.
Needless to say, all these are free apps! |
