Touching up car paintwork

Got some small chips in the bottom edge of doors. Small amount of very light surface rust. I've dabbed kurust on them and also some brush on touch up paint. Could i stop any further rust by letting the sun bake the door bone dry, then laquer the bottom edge? Not sure about the chemistry involved in rust when it's started

From memory (it's been a long time since my a-levels) you'd have to make sure ALL the actual water was removed to prevent rapid rusting. Iron can oxidise without water but it takes much longer.

4Fe + 3O2 + 2H2O = 2Fe2O3.H2O

Back to bare metal, clean (IPA) and paint immediately. Lacquer for more permanent results.
