Morning all, i recently had to visit Satan's pain dealers due to having cracked a tooth, and he told me i needed a root canal and crown. Having a severe phobia of the pain dealers since childhood many years ago, this was quite scary (even for a 48yr old).
Anyway, lots of people told me it was horrendous and giving me their own recap of their own root canals, which didn't help my fears, i went in, had the work done with absolutely no pain at all, and nothing since then. Either i am hard as nails (unlikely) or people were yanking my chain just to wind me up.
Is it usual for it not to hurt? I'm over the moon its done though.

Have had two on the same tooth. Both times apart from the feeling of the pulp getting yanked out I didn't feel a thing. Most painful thing was the injection and the rest was easy. |

It depends how irritated the nerve is when the therapy is done. If you have a pulp abscess or a lot of inflammation of the nerve it can be impossible to numb the pain with mandibulars and you end up with that white knuckle ride of terror. Been there twice, it is really traumatising.
They can squirt some anaesthetic down the root canal itself and that usually works. |

My brother hates the dentist's and he had one done and said it didn't hurt, the most off putting thing apparently was that it seemed like they were setting up a deep sea drilling platform around his mouth to do it all, which slightly freaked him out, but he calmed down when it didn't hurt

I've had this done. I had to go back for numerous sessions as well Luckily I don't mind dentists. It generally wasn't that painful. However, there were brief periods during the procedure when he was pushing down on the nerve...my god, the pain was horrendous! Never felt anything like it. Thankfully that pain was brief and once it's done you don't have any pain at all. |

I got headbutted when I was 18, front teeth smashed together and were a bit of a mess.
One of the big front teeth on top was totally split in half, had it capped and then had to have root canal a couple of years later on it........
Without numbing it |

Mine was the same, no pain at all, never understood the problems people have with dentists. |

Forgot to mention, I hate going to the dentist, have a "thing" about the needles in the mouth, but I just give myself a mental slap and get on with it, and communicate with the dentist, you might be surprised how understanding they can be, I've had 3 different dentists in the last 6 years (our dentist is part of a national chain that also trains them), and when I get a new one I just talk to them, explain how I feel.
I've had a tooth out, big fillings and a root canal, and never felt a thing, before, during or after. |

I've had two done. No pain during but my god the problems I had after!!!
I've had both drained and refilled several times. I've now had one of them removed!
If a dentist said I needed another I would tell them to just take it out, it will have to come out in the end!!
I have an extreme phobia and will only attend if I'm in pain. |
