Ok, I've recently noticed some of my customer's names coming up on the 'People you may know' feed on FB.

I use a totally different email address and phone number for my work, but people who work at my customer's workplaces are appearing!

Does anyone know how FB manages to find these people?

You may use a different phone number, but do you have any of theirs stored on your phone, and do you use the FB app on that phone?

If you sync your contacts and the FB app you will get them turning up in people you may know.

I didn't know how Facebook got my phone number. And I've read that they bought WhatsApp. So, this might be the solution...

on the road to nowhere in particular

FB syncs all contacts with your phone book and whatsapp

It's amazing how many of you on here come as potential FB friends

Facebook monitors all of your online activities both when logged in to it as well as logged out. It acquires masses of detail upon you so that it can make money.

Its systems will be trying to work out who you really are, hence questions about who you know etc.

The only way to stop it is to either use ir on a web browser that you use for nothing else or delete its cookies that are stored.

As has been said it links to everyone in your phone contact list. Then it links to everyone in their list, and so on.

With the seven degrees of separation everyone will be linked.

I assume they also use word recognition software to select ads, groups and potential friends based on words in your posts.

If you click on a post about ducks skating on a frozen pond, FB will recognise this and inundate you with skating duck vids.
