I've managed to nearly flood the kitchen out, I only want the washing machine and dishwasher to run from the same inlet pipe, got one of those Y connections to plumb them both in, but it squirts water everywhere
I've unscrewed and screwed them back on a number of times!
Still not working.... So given up and going to spend my day off in the sunshine |

"It's a plastic Y connection, and all 3 rubber washes are in place, and I've only hand tightened them.
Would a brass connector be advisable? "
Brass would be better, you can never get the plastic ones tight enough by hand, you'll need to get a wrench on them. But beware, being plastic, it's easy to overtighten and ruin them. Same with the washing machine ones.
I usually get them as tight as I can by hand and then nip them up a bit with a pipe wrench or adjustable spanner, until they go tight, and then turn the water on. If they still weep, then another gentle nip up with the wrench until the water stops.
But I've also wrecked a few over the years by over tightening

You'll need a wrench for a brass one too though, and you'll probably have plastic connectors on the hoses to the 2 arms of the Y.
I've installed several of my own dishwashers and washing machines over the years, and never been able to get the plastic ones to seal without a wrench, even when using brand new quality hoses - but as I say, I've also wrecked a few - so I usually have a spare set to hand nowadays. |

My ex moaned at me that I didn't do enough housework, so I said I'd take care of all the washing up from now on.
Whilst she was out, I bought and installed a dishwasher. She was furious (but wouldn't let me take it when we separated) |

The hoses are brand new and pretty good quality, I have a feeling it's the connector, will go out and buy a new one.
Thank you all for the tips and advice |

Which joint is leaking?....sometimes the rubbers dont seat on the plastic properly or the rubbers aren't thick enough...try putting an additional rubber in the joint thats leaking and nip it up that should sort it |
