As most of you are aware im on a mission to shift weight.
Last week me and my mates all agree'd we were going to a Flaming Grill to celebrate a birthday and we were all going to do a 'Challenge'.. (think ridiculous amounts of food)
Ive never in my life attempted one of these and realistically doubt id ever complete it.
My issue is that ive worked SOOO hard this week to get a loss on the scales. If i get a gain tomorrow im likely to think 'fuck it' and eat til im stuffed. If i loose considerably im not going to want to enjoy my meal incase i have a gain the following week.
This really is one of those one off things though ..
naturally i want the loss.. but also want to see how much crap i can shovel down haha

I don't understand if you are working so hard on losing weight why you would do this. Forget the stupid challenge and concentrate on eating properly, your health is far more important than how much food you can stuff into yourself that's just gluttony. You seem to be doing great so keep it up! |

this exactly -- but maybe set yourself a target weight that will allow for such a pigout night to happen - and have a repeat night |

"Just don't do the challenge. "
If you're working hard then keep working hard. Some weeks you might not have a massive loss but don't undo your hard work by 'rewarding' yourself with food.
Your mates will understand. Go cheer them on but keep your willpower up. |

I totally get where your coming from because i agree.. ive worked so bloomin hard to get where i am so far..
It totally was a stupid choice on all our parts.. Its just real life,, and there will be times that i just think 'fuck it' and have a splurge.
My food has dramatically changed over recent months and guess this is just a hugeeeeee treat.
I know i wont eat it, but i will get some satisfaction from stopping when im full and leaving out bits and bobs.
Wont be on plan, but will be a night we can just let go and i'll enjoy the company with friends |

To quote the cast of Grange Hill:
"Just say no"
You're so much better than that CnS, and the journey you are on will give you so many more benefits than failing some spurious 'I bet we can serve you more food than you can eat' challenge.
I agree with the others, your true friends will understand and be supportive.
Good luck.

Ps if you want a REAL food challenge, try the one I did on Maundy Thursday - no food at all for 36 hours |

If you can honestly say for the other 6 days of the week you've eaten clean then I don't think one blow out will do much harm, just don't think that cos you've eaten shit for the one day you might as well carry it over to the next day. |

Are you confident this challenge won't either A. Make you pissed off if you gain next week B. Open up the temptation of wanting that type of food again?
You're the only one who truly knows your eating habits so it's a hard one to answer.

Makes it an even sillier thing to do when you are all trying to stick to a diet.
Don't get me wrong I think even on a diet you need a treat now and then, but gorging on food at one sitting is silly plus you will probably end up in agony. agony. |

If you are making a show of doing the challenge...
Firstly drink a pint of water an hour beforehand and another before you start..
Lose the carbs, stick to the protein and salad. Add lots of chilli
Pint of prune juice when you get home... |

im pretty much a clean eating convert..
truly is a one off with friends,, we all have 6 days to pull it back.
Tomorrow i generally dont eat anyways as it is weigh day. I know i wont eat the quantities of food put before me and will drink plenty of water with the meal to feel full as i go (well thats my tactic anyway )
Guess you'll all find out how i got on when i post the results next wed evening x |

I've never understood why people do these food challenge things or eating contests. Why would anyone want to stuff themselves silly and probably end up feeling uncomfortable/bloated and with an upset tummy. I just don't get it but then again I can't even manage a 3 course meal myself even if the portions are small.
I personally wouldn't do it if I were you. By all means go for a meal/drinks and enjoy yourself with friends and have a treat but why undo all your hard work. I just don't understand what you will achieve from it ? I don't get the logic.
Please don't think I'm having a go its nothing personal I just genuinely have never seen the appeal with these mmonster meal thingys. Anyone care to enlighten me ?
Have a great night either way. Always good to spend time with friends.

I struggle with the notion that there are people in this country who go to bed hungry at night whilst others have too much food.
So much food is produced, only to be thrown away, it is vile. In this country it's bananas and bread that are the most wasted.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound |
I enjoy food and can't imagine enjoying it if force feeding myself. It's not a challenge that appeals to me.
OP, isn't part of your weight loss about having a different relationship with food? Wouldn't it help you more to learn to respect food rather than think of it as a challenge to be conquered?
I hope you have a fun night out but it seems an odd thing to do when you have been working so hard.
|

I know how hard and how well you have done so far, so why spoil it just because your friends want to do a food challenge?
When I go out for dinner I want to enjoy it and not feel pressured to eat it all up!
If they are truly your friends they should understand if you say you don't want to do it! You can still have a good night out. |

Don't really get these food challenges and people eating that much it hurts. Hardly enjoyable. I'd much rather have a cheat night and just have steak and chips. Enjoy every mouthful. |

Your body can only absorb a set amount of nutrients so if you stuff your face in one sitting it's not really that bad, you may gain a pound but it'll soon come off with diet and exercise. Body builders call it a cheat meal while dieting. Go for it but only do it once a week or once a fortnight. |

Ahh ok.... Most don't have such an allowance (as you'll be aware by the whingers in group when they realise you have more!)
sadly still 26 stone 12.
dropped 3 stone then maintained for the whole month of march as i concentrated on excercise.
mini target for this week (tonight) is 7
Good luck lovely - plenty of S foods rest of the week should balance the beast of a burger lol"
ive already meal planned and doing my food shop tomorrow after the school run to make sure im 100 percent on plan. |

The other thought is, all the weight you have lost, you cannot gain back in one day. If you want to take that day off, do it, but be fully aware that you are being 'nawty' and eat clean from that point on. You are allowed down time |

ive made real changes to mine and my daughters food and no way would i return to that.
this truly is a one off thing. there would have been a time in my life few years back that would truly have gone all out for this and tried to beat the challenge.
ive slept on it.. going to ammend my order to something with less food on the plate. pointless cooking it all knowing id never ever eat it..
besides i dislike pulled pork.. cheese.. onions.. will ask them to leave the bun off.. remove one of the 12 onz burgers. |

If you decide to do the challengedon't weigh yourself the day after. A night out with a few drinks and a meal is likely to cause a small spike in your weight the day after but 48 hours later you're unlikely to notice the difference.
We all need to spoil ourselves occasionally and one night out will not undo the progress you've already made unless you let yourself fret over it. |

UPDATE
went for the night out after getting a 2.5 lb gain on the scales.. didnt let it ruin my night mind
8 people had the burger challenge
1 trash can challenge
1 32 onz steak challenge
i was the only one to fail.. (least it proves my stomach has shrunk considerably)
I had one 12 onz burger, chicken breast, 4 onion rings, french fries and half of the bun.. oh and the side salad
Tasted bloomin divine, but even that was a struggle.
To complete the challenge a further 12 onz burger must have been eaten with pulled pork, bacon, 2 slices of cheese, fried onions and 3 more onion rings and the top half of the bun.

Times certainly change. When I was at college we used to go to a place that did spaghetti Bolognese with salad and garlic bread and while we didn't make a challenge of it we did used to wonder if any of us would ever be able to eat all of it...we never did. |

"What is this "speed food" that keeps being mentioned?
"
fruit and veg.. its a bit more complex than that.. but 1/3 of a plate should be 'speed' food |

fruit and veg..
The more you eat of these 'speed foods' the more weight loss you are likely to see. |

I'm assuming its fibrous foods like broccoli or chickpeas, that fill you up and keep you feeling full for longer. |

Like many have said: go along, enjoy a nice meal, celebrate with your friends. Don't do the challenge. You'll only regret it afterwards. There's no harm in having the occasional treat - just don't go mental with it. |
