Job dilemma

So I've been offered a new contract with my current employers, same salary, 3 months notice. I enjoy the job, however there is no job security.

I have two interviews in the next couple of weeks for more secure and better paid jobs.

My dilemma is do I:-

A- Sign with my current employer, go to the other interviews, then work my three month notice if I get one of the jobs.

Or

B- Explain the situation to my current employer, not sign the contract, await the interview outcomes and risk not getting either job and my current employer withdrawning their offer???

Any advice appreciated, especially if you've been in a similar situation.

Can't you just put off signing with your eployer for some spurious..I'm a bit busy type reason and then decide after your interviews?

Option A - a contract works both ways, they wouldn't hesitate to not renew if it benefitted them so there's no guilt for utilising this same freedom yourself

Central

No similar situation but security of any income is essential - so I'd request a longer contractual term and take what's offered by the deadline (keeps your income). And then see how I fare with the others. If organisations offer limited security then they must face the consequences - staff mortgages, rents etc don't let you off if you're not treated like a temp.

does it mention what the penalty is for not working out your notice .... usually it's offset against any holiday pay, but if no holiday pay is owing then what have you got to lose by just walking if you get offered one of the other jobs?

My thoughts are you should take up the offer of with your existing employer to give you peace of mind for the short term.

For the long term security attend the interviews and explain you are on three months notice.

If they want you they will wait the three months.

This !!!

Notice means absolutely nothing unless it has a penalty in your contract going early - hence better to leave on pay day

Most employers would sack you at the drop of a hat

Not meeting

3 months is a lot of notice to give!!

I only have to give a month & been here 18 years.

Thank you all, great advice, really appreciate it. Taking all your points on board, and with a lot of you giving the same advice, I'll sign the contract and go from there.

i worked as a contractor for many years in the computer industry, most jobs were three month contracts that got extended and extended.

Contracts generally are 10 a penny, i'd work for whoever pays the most..

Ask your current employers what they intend to do with you after the 3 months is up.. is it a rolling contract.. ?
