not far from iceland,,,,,, tescos is nearer though :-) (near leeds)

Your daughter / son at 15 to have their tongue and belly button pierced.?

I might be old fashioned in my outlook on what young girls and guys do.

I have no piercings or tattoos, just in case someone asks

If I were worried they'd just do it themselves, I'd take them to get it done. If there was no risk, I'd rather they waited but a lot of places will do it at 16.

No, not at 15. I had my nose and belly button done when I was 17 so I'd go with that age personally with my kids If they wanted it done.

A guy I knew many years ago had a bad experience when he couldn't talk/eat solid food because of how much his tongue swelled up

And that was nothing compared to the real horror stories

I took our daughter to have her belly button pierced when she was 15, I drew the line at her tongue because in my opinion being visible it has more impact.

I agree when they're old enough to do it without legal consent it's up to them.

That's why we have laws in place.

I also don't agree with piercing children's ears, I've seen it done with -5 year old girls.

I was talking to a lady at work who was taking a half days holiday to take her granddaughter to get these done, I said can't she take herself (naively thinking she'd be an adult) then she saidd no she's 15 today and it's her biirthday present,

I see no point of any piercing .. if I want jewellery I can wear it,..

not their tongue because they can't hide that. their belly button i would let them but tell them it can take up to a year to heal and they might have problems with it during that time. also they won't be able to take it out if it gets infected (because the infection can get into the bloodstream then) and will have to go to the doctor and might be in considerable pain and discomfort until they get there.

i had both my ears pierced 6 times by that age and don't have a problem with piercings at all.

16 is okay for piercing. I took my daughter to get her helix and tragus piercings at 16.

I personally don't like belly button or tongue piercing and would try to talk her out of it, but luckily that's not her thing anyway.

I'd prefer her to wait for a tongue / belly button piercing, 15 feels a tad young.

However, if I thought she would carry on regardless & get it done then I would rather take her than her sneak off and get it pierced.

No.

Teenagers change their minds like the wind, or ours does.

We've had this discussion in our house and said no until she's 18.

My 15 yr old daughter has a number of ear piercings and has my permission to get as many of those as she likes, I'm rather happy to see her choosing very carefully what to have done next. She asked to have her belly button done and together we did a bit of research on what can go wrong with them..... so she doesn't have my permission for that or any other major piercings, and she completely agrees with my decision.

Good god, I have a great teenager

when I feel they are old enough to make a proper informed and reasoned thought process towards having these things done and could therefore have an adult discussion with me about it, I'd consider it.

I was extremely mature at age 15 and could have made those kind of decisions myself at that age, and did, all my friends were getting belly buttons pierced so my mum asked me if I wanted it and I declined (she was relieved) I saw it as a fad and not worth permanently scaring my body for, those friends that had it done have let theirs heal over years ago now and all say they regret it.

Some 15 years olds are very wise for their age so don't make the mistake of viewing them as a child that knows no better, they can/do surprise you.
