I was wondering if the majority of guys and girls still believe the hegemonic _iew of masculinity is still dominant in society today.
So basically think Arnold Schwazenegger in Commando for instance.
Men = Strong, competitive, dominant, agression, self reliance etcs. Dominates other men and sees women as subs.
Or do we think this is changing and men can be softer, more sensitive and dare I say it cry without being called a big girls blouse.
Or perhaps you think men are getting softer without realising, allowing women to slowly take over the world on the sly

I love alpha males...something rather alluring watching them strain against the restraints, eyes bulging, moaning around a cock gag as I approach with a dildo...and no lube! |

Personally think society is changing its attitudes to peoples personality s and it is less about conformity than individualism. In other words I think manly man image has changed with the times for many people including men. Personally I would call a true man self-reliant dependable boisterous but with gentler side, dom but not over powering and naturally competitive. I believe womanly. Woman has changed just as much. Think arnie was a bit too self absorbed to be a manly man though, too many protein shakes not enough drink with the lads. Lol |

hehehe the title of this thread puts me in mind of the theme tune to 2 and a half men....anyway....
When Carl and I first met we were chalk and cheese. I was into metal and going through a 'goth' phaze and really into BDSM. Where as Carl was a hippy (for lack of a better phrase) and not at all into the metal or BDSM scene.
Whilst I crave to be dominated in and out of the bedroom, he just isnt the type to.

I used to be in a motorcycle club and, by my own admission, have been quite an evil b*****d at times.
However, I've mellowed to the point of softness over the time I've been with Trace.
I think if you have a soft, sensitive partner over a long period, then its bound to rub off on you.
I know it has done with me but certainly don't see it as a bad thing.
Mind you, I've not long since become reacquainted with some of my old crowd and am building another Harley, so the world may hear from me again (Gives sinister echoing laugh!) R

Can I reply to this thread later?
Off out for a facial and get my cuticles done, then a track night on my Suzuki, back to make a delicious meal for my son before tucking him up in bed with a story and then nipping out to knock fuck out of the neighbour who's been parking over the end of my drive.
After that i'll settle down with a glass of Rioja and give you my considered opinion.

I think of myself as an alpha male. I've always been the leader, even if self proclaimed, always risen to the top in a job.
That said, I'm also 100% (or is that 50%) bi and have had good, long relationships with both sexes.
So no, I don't believe in the macho straight guy version of the manly man, I think of it more as a way of being and a mental attitude.
After all, alpha male lions don't rule by force, they rule by confidence and only fight to maintain it when absolutely needed and as humans we are nothing more than animals at the base. |

Its a false dichotomy.Men can be Dominant without ignoring their emotions and women can be assertive without being unfeminine.
What you really seem to be asking is are stereotypes true and accurate. |

i see my self as a mans man. Goes to work with appendicitus, wear T shirts in the snow, competetive and fit etc etc, but i have to say, the young lads nowadays are getting idle and soft. They come to work stinking like a tart with hair clarted up and lookin in every mirror they find. Now, i mite sound like your weird uncle dave but i'm only 35 and this change has occured over the last few years. I think the Mans man is a dying breed, but while theres a few of us still walking the plannet, there'l still be women getting fucked hard and propper. . . Ugg ! |

i think society and sexual identity are fluid. When women decided they wanted more caring 'feminine' men the metrosexual arose and filled this need. But women being the mind changers they are now are edging towards a more manly man . Personaly i am a geek desperately trying to be a manly man but failing miserably and ending up a kind of pink fluffy arnie. |

I think that pretty much wraps it up for me too. I'm fully bi but I don't regard a man being fucked by another man as submissive. I like what I like and make sure I get get it.
In a relationship, I'm natually dominant but not to the point where it's my way or the highway, as I've often deferred to Siren when her knowledge about a particular subject is better than mine.
In bed, I rule. Period. |

You don't know what my definition of an alpha male is: you obviously don't understand D/s so your comments are silly! |

LMAO but sassy i don't really have a clue what an alpha male is. What you describe is a male who has a high powered job but looks a submissive role in play. Now that's just not an alpha male at all. I think if you came across a real alpha male half an hour in you would me crawling round the lounge floor, pony tail but plug in ya bum and a pint rested on your shoulders while your alpha male watched the footie! |
