Was to take my poor cat to the Vet and have him put to sleep, he was 15 years old and his health deteriated quickly over the last 6 months, don't think I've ever cried so much holding him as he was put to sleep  |

kisses and (((hugs)))) you done what was best for the cat you loved . I have had to do this with cats dogs horses and thay are part of our lifes never easy ...... we have to put them first. And there is a gap when thay go in your life with out them ..Maybe when you can cope go see if theres a kitten who needs a good home .. will never fill the gap of him i know. x xx x jo |

Big hugs to you, we had to take one of mine to the vet just before xmas as she had something like a stroke even though she was only about 6-7 yrs old, was very upsetting. Couldnt stand watching her struggling to walk, losing control over her legs so let her go |

Big hugs to you Sassy, my kids did the same with their dad earlier this year and though we had not been together for nearly 17 yrs i stood by their side and held my daughters hand as they let him go |

Feel so very sad about this as people who have never had pets never understand quite how much they mean to you. They become part of the family over the years and it is probably just as bad as losing someone dear to you but without the sympathy from others. I got told that it's only a cat and you can always get another!! Not really what you want to hear at the time xx |

So sad to lose a family pet Mally, from the first moment you see that little bundle of fluff they have you by the heart-strings till they close their eyes for the last time.
Better to let them go though when the time comes, keeping them alive in your memories. xxxx |

She keeps looking for him, and I still find myself looking under the breakfast bar in the kitchen where he used to sleep all the time.

Same thing happened ta me a few years ago he was about the same age as well mate
Ya were there for him to the last and that's what matters

It's one of the hardest things I've had to do and have done it too many times. After the last one I said tats it no more
10 days later two little bundles of fluff came into my life, now they rule it. Sat by me as I type this, love em to bits |

aww thats so sad
i had a boxer who had cancer, after about a year of treatment he was getting no better so had to make the dessision to end his suffering

That sucks Mally!
I had to do the same to my doggy who was 14 and went down hill in a similar way. I was sobbing like a big baby, I couldn't stop it, never cried like that in my life.
Stupid pets!

i moved my mum in with me for the last 6 to 7 months of her life, she was dieing of cancer. She didnt want to die in an hospital so i kept her with me i watched her go from a normal healthy woman to just skin and bones. It was hard but worth it, when she passed away she wasnt alone me and my sis were there holding her hands |

i never had a pet till i was 30 and got a black 4 week old tom from a rescue. When i first held him i had it in the back of my mind it would not be forever. I love the little ferrel shit, even tho he chews my fone charger and pukes on my floor. He's my cat, although only for a while, and when he's gone their wont be another.

Mally, I know just what you mean, matey.. Had to have our cat put to sleep about two years agao. She was MY cat! We got her from Wood Green Animal Shelter and as soon as I walked into the room she was in, she came up to me a that was it!
Les & I took her to the vets together, after the kids had a week to say goodbye. I have to say it was the hardest thing I had to do and I cried like a baby as I felt the life go out of her. We took her home and she is in the garden, where she used to spend her time.
Not really sure we'll ever get another pet, I don't think I could go through that again... Fair thee well Tinkerbell... |

I hope i am there when my mum die holding her.... your mum was lucky to have you both there nothing can take her place in your hearts. ((HUGS))

That must have ripped your insides out. I hope you get a chance to see your kids, and that they know you still love them. I made sure my kids knew their dad and I loved them and they saw him as much as they wanted, no restrictions. |

Mally mate, I can emperthise with you. My old dog was nearly 18 and I had to take him to the vets. He could no longer walk easily and was partly incontinent.
Like you I held him as the vet injected him and as the last one went in, he made eye contact with me as if to say "goodbye"
I broke down and blabbed like a baby, but somehow I wasn't embarrassed to walk out of the room into a packed waiting room. Yes a 16st plus, bouncer, blabbing. I cried all the way back home and then locked myself in my garage.
That was about 9yrs ago now, and there hasn't been a day gone by that I haven't thought about him, even though I've now got another dog. |

big hug to Sassymissuk. my brother had to turn his daughters machine when she was 14. worst day of my life. 
hardest thing i ever did was when leaving my kids when going throught a split up. was best all round tho and the mother is a good mother. im in touch with them and the kids are in a good place in there lives x |

This thread is so sad. I feel for anyone who has lost a family member or a pet (they are like losing a family member) Hugs to anyone in this situation - it's a trite saying but 'time heals' you don't forget but the pain diminishes. |

Really sorry to hear your news Mally. I was the same when I took my dear 18 year old cat to be put to sleep because he was very ill. It's heartbreaking.
Today I found out my lovely little mutt has an aggressive malignant tumour and doesn't have long left. I've brought her home so everyone can say goodbye but it's my call when to take her back to be put to sleep. I'm dreading it

i have had to take a few cats to the vets. it is the most horrible thing. We have a cat who is 19 and any time he has had to go to the vet we always think the worst. He's had his spleen removed, all his teeth bar 3 taken out. Will be a national day of mourning in this house when he goes.
The toughest thing for me, was i had a stillbirth at 38 weeks. I can't remember anything for about a year after that. But i still had to go on and look after my daughter who was 2 years old at the time. |

When one of my cats got run over whilst i was at work, someone had put her body on the grass verge, when i got off the bus, my other cat Tabby kept wandering back to her and couldnt understand why she wouldnt get up she also did the same when we had to have one of ours put to sleep
