i wouldn't mind watching this. bet it goes on about genes and repairing stuff.
wonder if they'll mention dementia also and how anti-aging might make that worse. |

They're probably gonna mention diet, exercise and sleep along with drinking and smoking. It's all mainly genetics and luck at the end of the day. Everything in moderation, don't worry about things out of your control and enjoy life while you can. |

I would ... But I feel the need to doze with Radio 4. So I think the panacea of eternal youth might be a little beyond me. |

I'll probably watch it but it's a bit like shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted |

"Why would anyone want to be young? Everyone expects so much of you and you just end up disappointing them "
and you imagine that changes as you get older? All that happens is you realise that other people's expectations of you are not as important as your expectations of yourself. |

Slightly sceptical about how real the science is on this program - the sit-test for example has never been properly replicated and shown to have strong predictive power. |

They are comparing the best exercises to do, dancing v the gym, riding exercise bikes. 3hrs a week for 6 weeks and to the same music both groups to see what the difference is. |

They also say, stress is a big factor, so by reducing it, it would help, for example when working, yoga was one tip to do home. Even having a dog at work would lower stress. |

Interesting but also depressing because the masses won't get a look in. A funny take on that subject was the film Death becomes her with Goldie Horn,Meryl Sreep and Bruce willis excellent laugh |

"I tried the sitting down standing up test and failed . "
Never seen this test before.
I can sit down (albeit not very elegantly!) but standing up I have to rock forward and press on the side of my leg for stability.

Remember - most of those brain training apps etc don't give your brain much help, apart from getting better at those specific tasks. Cambridge uni published an investigation a couple of years ago debunking most claims and it's largely still the same. One of the world's biggest providers was sued in the USA this year for false claims of benefits.
Certainly use it or potentially lose it, to some degree. And retain your social interaction, which is essential for us as social animals too. |

She is having a brain scan and they will see if she had any changes, this will change by age, the total volume of your brain shrink when you are 40, the reason is cos individuals brain cells is dying and disappearing, if you have episodes of forgetting things, this is one sign. |

She is in japan now in Okinawa, they live the longest in the world than rest of us, one 85 year old is a master in karate, the elderly is highly valued and they say respect is one thing, but the food they eat are the key which keeps them healthy, "food is medicine" But what is it in the food that keeps the brain healthy? The local diet he discovered was the key role in maintains their healthy brains? He discovered the purple sweet potatoes which is a powerhouse for nutrition, half a kilo they eat. |

They done a test. Table tennis v walking for 10 weeks, table tennis is more social, walkers are also benefiting, they feel better and more alert. They are crunching the data, most over all cognitive performance the walkers won and gave more benefit.
2nd test of the result structure in the brain, aerobic activity walkers did good but the table tennis won cos it improved the mental sharpness.
3rd test is emotional well being, extra benefit of playing table tennis, emotional rate, fewer negative emotions than the walkers did so benefiting more.
Both groups saw a good performance, but the walkers just won.

Diet is important too, by cutting out meat and eating more fruit helps and could add years to the life and as well counteract stress. Exercise plays an key role, especially if it engages you, mentally, physically and socially. The best thing as an over all exercise for body and brain is to dance. Good for balance, spatial awareness, social and using the brain. |

It's a type of dance. Lots of fun and a great workout. Always left every class buzzing . IF it weren't for my knees I'd still be doing it. |
