Tom Cruise is allegedly planning on moving into the Church
called Saint Hill Manor - in East Grinstead, Sussex.
He's investing a lot of his own money back into the UK Church and secretly the talk is how they want to be as influential as the Royal family."
The source also claims that those involved in the project have dreams of Saint Hill Manor overshadowing Buckingham Palace.
I don't understand why he would wish to do this in the UK or are they just looking at new ways to get more into this.? |

What on earth made you think it would be good anyway? The trailer was possibly one of the worst I've ever seen! |

If he wants to believe in Scientology and wants to invest money in his beliefs then good for him.
Personally I wouldn't have a problem if he started to worship a turnip and named it lord Harold turnip king of the world, his personal choice and faith are his own the same as it is with other people of faith.
I may not share his beliefs (or any in my own case) but i find nothing wrong with respecting those people that choose to believe in something spiritual even if it's not for me personally |

What I have an issue with is inviting people into you turnip church and then threatening them with a huge bill for accommodation and food if they try to leave, basically enslavement if you cut to the chase. Throw in a bit of stalking, publishing people's private lives on the Internet and frivolous law suits and a french civiction for fraud and yeah that's a bit of a problem.
Sticking feathers up your butt does not make you a chicken. |

Scientology is very well researched and well documented. A "religion" made up by someone who was previously on record as saying that creating a religion would be a great way to make money |

"Ill informed"
Sure, the courts in France didn't really sue them, I just made that up. You can't Google it yourself and find it confirmed by multiple sources.
A BBC journalist who does an investigative piece and films it for me to see is ill informed but randomer off the fab forum knows better. |

Ummm let's see, no I don't think Christians, Jews, Muslims or a Hindus have systematic practices to extort, sue or libel when members want to leave. I'm pretty sure that if you stop turning up to the Church of England the worst that happens is your local Vicar invites you in for a jam sandwich. But nice try to divert attention from the fact that my sources are solid and you have no facts to back you up. |

You've cited 'narrow minds' a lot before now, Belle. Without wanting to be antagonistic at all, would you accept that there are very valid reasons the others in the thread would have critical opinions, based in well-documented evidence, of Scientology? That there are concepts of faith or belief that within Scientology that where a narrow mind defence isn't enough to dismiss scepticism? |

No. I tolerate them and agree that their beliefs should be allowed, but I don't feel everyone's opinions or beliefs are automatically worthy of respect. I wouldnt be rude or insulting to them but neither would I make out I thought they were valid.

I think a "way of life" can be worthy of respect. But where that is linked to a belief in strange beings or some such.... That part is no more worthy of respect than respecting an adult who believes in Santa Claus |

If you think scientology is a belief system you may be misinformed
They tried to recruit me, when I illustrated their proof was a manipulative con trick they kicked me out of their office
Their motive is cash and people control
One can archive all the positives they prescribe without the cult wrapper just like most religions
This lot however are some of the worst and most manipulative xxx

"As a practising Pastafarian, i believe we should all hail the great noodley appendage.
Seriously? "
Yes. My belief that thecreator of the universe is the all knowing 'Flying Spaghetti Monster'.
One of Scientologies high level teachings is that 75 million years ago Galactic Warloard Xenu brought billions of people to Earth in spacecraft resembling Douglas DC-8 airliners, stacked them around volcanoes and detonated hydrogen bombs in the volcanoes.
Christian believe in creation by parthenogenesis of the earthly manifestation of the Creator; a man who who could conjurer food out of thin air, walk on water, heal using the power of his mind and faked his own death to get out of a sticky situation.
-
You can treat religions in awe, fantasy or ridicule. Any and all of them exist in our minds through interpretation, which become, in some, a belief system. But for all the doctrine, litany, mantras and tantras, its all down to 'mans interpretation' and what each of us does with that interpretation in deference to our chosen God(s).
One belief systems is no better than another. Its when man sets his Gods to compete against each other that war, hate, intolerance and injustice are allowed to reign supreme in the hearts and minds of mortals.
I don't have a problem with belief. I don't have a problem with religion. I just a have a problem with some of the shit that gets carried out in its name. |

While I'm not religious, I can see that faith, however blind or unreasonable to me, can provide comfort, community and happiness. There will be other things, based on less 'ambitious' precepts, that do the same thing, but having never known a real scientologist, I'd like to have heard some of the real experiences, good and bad, that make someone want to join, stay and leave.

I've always thought that people too often use their beliefs and opinions as a bulwark against personal criticism.
Religion and other alternative belief systems are as open to criticism as any other part of the human experience. |
