Can cun vs dubai opinions please
Jump to: Newest in thread
Hi all
So I've been pricing up a holiday for middle of may.
Main destination was dubai as i really want to do a sky dive over the palms (sky dive been on my bucket list for years).
Ive been told that everything is expensive there taxis, food etc.
I found a few nice hotels but for my budget they was only bed and breakfast and only 6 nights.
Ive been to can cun before (temptations resort ), loved it there was one big party atmosphere. For the same price i was qouted for dubai i can stay 12 nights all inclusive and i found out that not too far away they also sky dives aswell as other excursions like whale shark snorkeling.
So with me needing less spends as its all inclusive i could tick 2 things of my bucket list.
Only down side is the sky dive wont be as scenic as over the palms and also that ive been to can cun and i like to visit new places.
I think i already know the best option for value for money is can cun as i get the longer holiday.
But if there's anyone thats been to dubai convince me that its worth going to even if its for half the time.
Thanks in advance for any opinions and advice.
Ill check back later as I'm off out now.

I've been to Cancun and loved it. I'll be going to Dubai at the end of the month, so give me some time and I'll get back to you on that.
Cancun is really lovely but the thought of 12 days there makes my head hurt. We did 5 days and I think that was quite enough. |

"I can't see the attraction of Dubai.
What is there to do there ? "
Shop.
There's a fantastic video of it, http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Czy0pXRRZcs but I doubt it's open to tourists. |

One of my best friends lives in Dubai. Whilst it's lovely it's also very strict. I'm getting less inclined to visit.
I highly recommend Cuba before it becomes Americanised. Not sure about sky or water diving though as not my thing.
Belize & Costa Rica are meant to be beautiful |

I am going to Dubai in November and I can't wait.
I am looking forward to staying in a nice hotel, relaxing on a nice beach in hot weather, enjoy a trip up the Burj Khalifa, a desert trip on camels (if they are strong enough) but most of all the shopping.... |

I lived in Dubai for 18 months
Taxis (cheap as chips) and food not expensive (if you avoid 7 star hotels) , the spice market and gold sook worth a visit, it's a bit soul less on a budget I'm afraid - alcohol is London prices in all hotels + Irish bar
If just a pool holiday I would say yes

Burj is fab - you can't imagine how tall it is - but bars in it are a tad expenses - £32 for a beer |

We don't drink alcohol so that's not going to affect us at all. I won't be going around with my tits out and I don't wear revealing clothes, I will adhere to the customs as I would in any other country I visit.
I am drastically saving and I'm not wasting any money on clothes or shoes or makeup or all the other crap I waste every weekend. Then in November I am going to hit those malls like a demon.
I would like to go to Cancun too. I have always been put off by all inclusive resort hotels though, I like to be able to go out and about. it's probably not like that in Cancun though.
I would like to go to Rio and to Tokyo too, they are on my travel list |

"Belize & Costa Rica are meant to be beautiful "
Both are stunning. Costa Rica is gorgeous.
Personally, I prefer Belize - stable parliamentary democracy, relatively drug free, they speak English and it's safe to drink the water out of the taps.
AND it's one of the most relaxed, racially diverse small countries I've been to. Were supposed to pass through, stayed for 2 weeks.
Every now and then I think; fuck it, I'll go to Belize and build boats.
The Cayes are very touristy but inland (such as it is, the country's only 125 miles long by 50 wide or something) is varied, beautiful, rugged but safe. |

To set the scene, we were at Chetumal, on the Mexican border. It was late, Chetumal's not very nice.
We were wondering what to do and this little old mixed race couple came out of the bus station behind us and inquired if we were crossing the border.
Not sure.
"Come with us, we'll share a taxi."
Ok.
Went to Belize... literally stepped over the border and the sun came out, the music went on in the bus (full of people, chickens, chaos) and this couple were like you'll have to go here, visit there, have lunch at this place, dinner over there... And then come to our house, we can have cocktails and you can tell us ALL about it.
Did not want to leave Belize. |

I'm not Dubai's biggest fan and can think of at least 50 places I'd rather go on holiday, but one thing it isn't is boring! You've just got to have enough money to do the good stuff.
Unfortunately many people come here on a benidorm-budget and leave saying it's crap

We live in Dubai for 10 years now and given the two options it has to be Cancun. The summer is too hot and Ramadam is June 6 to July so definitely don't come then.
Dubai has great shops but everything else isn't worth a thought.
Enjoy Cancun !! |
