Why do you care where other people choose to go on holiday?

Was just wondering, met a couple at the weekend who are returning to same hotel for 5th time (because they like it) and I will hit my 100th different country this year, so much to see in this world

Yeah I'm generally a fan of going somewhere new but every year my parents have started going to the same hotel for a cheeky fortnight in September. They like the area as they cycle hundreds of miles and they like that the staff remember them. They have a lovely time. Their holidays the rest of the year are to different places so I guess they get the best of both.

Every year I go to to same 3 countries, then always choose at least one new country to visit, usually one long haul and one city break. Is it bad I go to the same countries every year? I go because I love them.

Because it's their choice.

We tour about Scotland a lot finding little campsite or a beach or a tiny attraction. We don't wonder why people tour the world ticking off countries.

We go to Gran Canaria most years for the swinging but we don't wondering why everyone doesn't do it.

Personal choice.

My uncle goes to the same hotel, same room, the same weeks every year. He and his wife like it, he likes routine and she enjoys knowing that once they get there she can relax completely. They even store some of their things in the hotel basement. We've been to the same place twice in the last four years and would go again because we loved it both times.

I go to one certain place once a year...its in the middle of nowhere. When I get there, its bliss,I'm at one with myself. The good old batteries get fully charged.

I have travelled all over the place, but this is the one spot I return to,time and time again.

We are not at all bothered about racking up a country count. Yes there is a lot of world to see, but we have found a number of places we really like and prefer to return. Holidays are finite for us now, we don't want to waste the time we have in a place we are not keen on.

When we were younger and had no cares, we travelled extensively and from that came our favourites. Funny thing though, until 2004, we hadn't been to France. Bypassing it for further afield. We there with some friends in 2004 and can't keep away.

Having said that, I suppose that we have got tired of all the crap at airports, having to arrive two hours early and all the security checks. We now take our motorhome to continental Europe, chill out and it costs a fraction of even cheap package holidays.

We stay in a holiday cottage in Dartmoor our little dogs like it there too. Brings back nice memories as my mum grew up there and my half brother who I only found out about in 1983.

I'm the same after 20 years of travelling all over, I've found where I like and go back annually. Still not time to hang up my travelling boots yet though so try somewhere new every year too x
