Hi all,
I'm heading up to Newcastle this week for a two-night stay with my 8yr old daughter.
Staying at a premier inn type hotel in the city centre - what can people recommend for us to go see/do? Thinking museums, experiences, good places to eat, and stuff that will appeal to an 8 yr old.
Not taking the car so needs to be doable on public transport.
Thanks in advance, you lovely lot! Xx |

Within the city centre, there is the Discovery Museum, which my daughter loved at that age, the Cenre for Life in Times Square, which is a science Centre and also the Great North Museum.
You can also visit the Castle Keep, which is part of the castle from which the city derived its name. |

Both the Hancock and Discovery museums are free and good for kids, I've taken my grandkids there.
Child friendly bars that do meals which are good are, The Goose ( Haymarket ) Yates ( Grainger street ) Keel row ( The Gate ) The Strawberry ( opposite the football stadium )
Also Gosforth high street a short bus ride from the city centre has, The Job Bulman and The Gosforth Hotel both child friendly and a nice area ( a bit posh ) |

Dependent upon the weather, you could also visit the North East Cost at Tynemouth/Cullercoats/Whitley Bay. The Metro runs to the above stations direct from the city centre, journey time around 45 mins. |

"Get to the ocean - it's a short trip.
Use the metro - unless you're used to the London underground etc.
It's a great city"
That's what I was trying to say in my above post...unfortunately my typo read cost and not coast |

Think that the best options have already been mentioned.
There's a lovely view from the top of the castle - I think our photo on here shows more of my boobs than the view but it gives you an idea
I'm sure you'll have a lovely time, Geordies are a friendly bunch. You might decide not to go to Manchester after all...

I know, I'm a bit gutted I'm going to have my daughter in tow actually, as I am desperate to play with a Geordie (or three )
Might have to plan a trip up with the fab girls another time!! |

Just a few things:
Discovery Musuem, Life centre (near the railway station) - check what's on though, Metro to Tynemouth - it's got a beach, or there's the Sea Life Centre, The Market is on a Sunday too (if you're there that day). That's all that I can think of, off the top of my head. |

The whole of the coast is great, metro system is easy to use, and on the whole very user friendly.
St Mary's Light House at Whitley Bay is a nice spot to visit, but a good walk or bus from the town centre. |

Geordie here...
Hancock museum is free and great for dinosaur lovers or discovery museum for history and a nice cafe.
Centre If life is costly but so worth the money.
Lots of great places to eat, on the quayside.
Millennium bridge and Baltic..free and near the quayside.
Beautiful beaches and tynemoutj beach is a lovely metro ride and has bluebreef aquatic centre and fish and chips and lovely castle. Or catch the ferry from north to south shields.
