Is it just me.. or does everyone get annoyed at the time they take to even show the dimmest of light?? I would be better carrying a torch round my house with me at the time it takes... then when at full light its still dim!!

The older ones were pretty naff, but the new generation of lamps are much better now.

Go for the 20w versions (they are equivalent to a 100W incandecent lamp) and you'll never know the difference.

When you buy one, make sure the colour rating is around 3500k - warm white (avoid 4800k because they give off a very cold, harsh light)

Overall though, regardless of colout temp, the up time on all the new lamps is vastly improved and the energy saving is well worth having

cheers for that..i must have an old version as it takes about 10 mins to glow!! will look out for the ones you mentioned cheers

Yeah, the chances are that it'll be an 8watt lamp (equiv to a normal 40w) so thats why its dull
