I'm crap with names, that's why everyone boils down to mate, pal, fella, bud or in the feminine, hun, sweetheart, luv, darlin and with customers sir, madam, young gentlemen or young lady...
Easy! ![](/icons/s/biggrin.gif) |

"I don't have this problem, it's faces I can't remember.
Luckily on this site you just have to remember body parts "
It's only a problem when I forget where I've left them... |

"Its just age,i can go upstairs and get to the top and iv forgot why i went up there, thats weird "
It's not weird if you think about it. While going up the stairs you were thinking of loads of other things. So the thing you gave a micro nano second became a lost thought.
You're doing ok ![](/icons/thumb_up.png) |

Ok, a technique I learned a long time ago that works well for me, but it's not infallible.
On first hearing/being told someone's name, associate it with the first thing that comes into your head.
E.g., over 10 years ago, I was introduced to a guy called Ed, I instantly thought of Ed the Duck, the cartoon - I only met him once, but I still remember it to this day. It can be a visual, or word association or combination of both.
Then, try to use the name in conversation 3 times at least in the first couple of minutes.
E.g. So what do you do for a living Ed? (omitting the Duck ). How long have you been doing that for Ed? Etc.
Try not to be too obvious or forced, or it will seem odd.
If you try this, I guarantee that for most of you, it will work to some degree and with practice, you can go to a party full of strangers and get everyone's name for the night.
Try it a couple of times |
