I'm at a wedding next week, it's a cousin of mine, but with all the fecking about he's doing I'm really not looking forward to it, I'm an usher though so pretty much obligated to attend, anyone else been to a wedding they didn't really want to go to?

I bet it turns out better than you think! Weddings are ace for getting all the different generations together. Some old aunt always has too much sherry. Most of our family weddings have been ace.

This is his second marriage, his first one was brilliant for all the wrong reasons though, this one he's being a complete cock about seating plans and going out Friday night in the supercharged Range Rover he's hired and going out for breakfast on the morning and blag fecking blah blah blah

I'm not a fan of attending weddings. It's usually just a matter of meeting family members I've never heard of and pretending I'm sick so I can go home.

I'm going to my friend's wedding in New York in May, though, and I'm actually excited about it. She is the first of my fiends to get married, besides me, and I'm the maid of honor so I think I'll have more interesting things to do. Plus it's not a family wedding so I don't need to pretend to care about my great aunt Patty who I've never heard of before

I love New York, can't wait to go back again, yes family weddings are a pain cause you start asking "who the feck is that"? I think once the sit down meal is over we will just slip away to the other bar in the hotel and leave them to it.

One of my good friends is getting married this summer and I'm so pleased she has not invited me!

Long day of pretence joy and happiness, the forlorn, hypocrite religious rituals in church, an excessive amount of money spent on pointless things, the bride's white, ridiculous gown to confirm some absurd, out dated Holywood-induced dream of a little princess meeting "The Right One" contrasting with modern life’s divorce-rates, and I could continue this rant but will spare you!

Solution? When someone sends you an invite, immediately say, oh, that's the month I'm going on my dream holiday to Barbados! And then start save up money and leave for their wedding! Problem sorted, each time!

I have 1 in July. Don't really want to go. It's an older cousin, so it will be full of people saying 'see it's not too late for you' type of thing.

I've elected to drive my parents and sister. That way I won't drink and say something I'll regret. My family do tend to bring out the worse in me.

There hasn't been a family wedding in a few years. But the last funeral was my Nannas and I nearly swung for my Auntie after she said I was bringing shame on my Nanna after I turned up with my girl friend.

Same Auntie is the mother of the bride. I think that's why I didn't get a plus 1.

I've got my brother's in August. I will be the only single person there. It's also my 1st wedding as a single person. He has very kindly asked me to be a witness. I have mixed feelings but mainly looking forward to it - a few drinks & I'll be fine

We went to one yesterday and we weren't looking forward. Didn't know anyone, the bride and groom haven't known each other long, he's a d*unk (like always d*unk, whatever time of the day it is) and the bride says she's done it because she doesn't want to be lonely. Turns out we were on the best table, had a great laugh, a dance, met some fellow swingers, don't know how I found that out but I started the conversation. That said, both of us were on water all night as I don't drink and Mr was driving. Was so much fun in the end ...

All of them? Every single wedding every couple has ever had?

I love the inverse snobbery that kicks in about weddings - god forbid any of those couples who have big weddings might actually really love each other and want to celebrate that in front of their family and friends while wearing a big fuck off dress

OP I'm jealous, I haven't been to a wedding for 18 months. 2 more of my friends are engaged though, I can't wait for those weddings to come around

I've been banned from wearing my white suit to a couple of weddings as *apparently* it's not done to upstage the bride.

Dude, I feel your pain.

A close friend is getting married in Portugal.

He's a diamond, so attendance is mandatory. I know he would be more than happy with an hour in the local registry office and a party afterwards but no........

A luxury villa in Portugal has been booked for a week, obliging everyone to fork out for flights and hotels..... It's going to be a full three days worth as well, there's the whole nine yards, rehearsal dinner, mendhi night, stag in Bucharest..... Wedding list at house of Frazer....

I'm so glad he's getting married, but, why should it cost me a week's holiday and a grand ontop?

Aaah, you've noticed the inverse snobbery/bitterness/jealousy too hey?

I like weddings, sadly, I feel, people don't bother much nowadays. When I was in my twenties and thirties we went to about six weddings a year. The last wedding I went to was my daughter's on 2012.

After my youngest gets married in September my middle daughter will tie the knot...with help from the bank of mum and dad!

Ben has talked about marriage, he's never married, but I'm not keen, did it once and only intended to do it once.

Hope it goes well OP. You have a harder role to play than many of the guests, but once the ceremony is over you should get a chance to have a few drinks and relax. Just switch on Fab's "Who's Near" feature and see if you can find a fellow swinger, or look out for someone to pull.

And remember, it won't be long before you're being invited to more funerals than weddings....
