...why do we make that sound when we're thinking, confused, or don't know what to say? Is it some sort of dialling/loading sound from the brain as it processed thoughts into communicable ideas and identities, also why is it different around the world, I'm sure Courtney will be along soon (she loves my threads ), and no doubt she'll be going uummm and ommm instead?

Thoughts?

And it's to afford extra time to think or allow others to speak. We choose the easiest neutral vowel sound, it's most often subconscious.

I became so aware of myself doing this I either made myself stop or I play on it. I have a deep voice and used to be a big Beavis & Butthead fan so I can comical effect
