"so many celebrity deaths this year"

RIP celeb or non-celeb.

It's weird how the media has everyone up in arms about celebs dying over the past year...as if it's news that people die.

Whereas it's the only certainty in life...each and everyone WILL die at some point. Even being a celeb ain't gonna change that.

. That's as maybe, and yes your very right everyone will die, but death is still sad, very very sad, and for those who have personal experience of death and for myself certainly, I only lost my dad in December to cancer, hearing about another family having to go through the sadness and heartache only brings it home, celeb or not we all grieve and to see the sadness today in the faces of some of this ladies greatest friends only serves to make you realise that although death is inevitable it is the toughest thing we all at some time will go through and have in common

Oh I didn't mean what I wrote in a harsh way at all...simply that everyone will die celeb or not. That's not to lessen the pain that death causes which also is inevitable. I'm very sorry for your loss and know that the pain will still be raw yet. Another sad truth is that we live in environments which make us more and more susceptible to cancer...I worked as a cancer researcher and know how sorely needed the treatments are and also how 1 in 3 of us will be affected by it (ourselves or our loved ones). Despite this, we can only hope to be spared the pain of this rotten disease.

RIP your dad x

. I also lost my brother to neuroendocrine lung cancer four years ago, for me watching the agony in both dad and my brother would mean that the media highlighting the poor celebrity's that go through this and there families could only help in continuing to raise awareness of this horrible devastating killer that hangs over our heads, Thankyou for your explanation but as a researcher surely you see the good any press could do

Sorry about your brother...my research was into treatments for small cell lung cancer which is also highly driven by neuroendocrine hormones. Huge lack of treatment options there

. Absolutely, lack of treatment options, and it's so quick, it's horrendous, he was diagnosed in the May, we were told it was terminal and he had until Christmas and he fought it untill March, he had some palliative chemo, to give him time to make memories and radio therapy for a cord compression but as soon as treatment stopped, he went bless him, miss him so so much dad had lung cancer, he also had early onset dementia, had dementia for the last fourteen years, he was diagnosed in July and died at Christmas, God bless him he also fought like a trooper

Aww that really is so sad...but bless for fighting through it regardless x

It's one of the worst types of cancer because it's spread already by the time it's picked up...they haven't found a way to diagnose it before spread. One of my theories is that it's the high neuroendocrine levels which causes it to spread in the first place but its not something anyone is looking into. It was a side finding of my PhD project...the main thing I was funded to investigate was some new treatments. But CRUK who funded it haven't done anything else with it sadly despite the drugs having completed phase I trials.
