Depends on the manufacturer, model and how flexible you are in what you want.
Check on-line for brokers, to see what they can do and use that to negotiate.
There is a website (sorry forgotten the name) where you can post your requirements and dealers will offer you there best deal.
Remember that a dealer will have more price flexibility on things like additional options and servicing packages, so don't over focus on car price - see if you can get extras thrown in instead.

Best time to buy, end of the month, end of the quarter, end of year. If the dealer hasn't reached their sales quota there may be a few incentives on offer. Not necessarily money off, but added extras or free servicing thrown in. |

Check the Motorpoint website and see if they have the car you want for sale. It will give you pretty much the rock bottom price that a dealer might go to, to sell a new car. I got a new Mazda from a dealer that way a few years ago. Didn't match the price but went a long way towards it to get the sale and save me the hassle of going across the country to collect a new Mazda. |

Try Carwow, you specify what car you want, and dealers will then come up with prices. Also consider a nearly new car, as you can make big savings if you time it right. I bought a 8 month old Seat Leon last November and saved £8000 against the list price of the car in that spec, so don't rule out the nearly new cars. I still had 2 years 4 months warranty left and also got the first 2 services thrown in as well. |

. What car magazine list taget prices to pay for certain new cars. However , if you have a car to trade in , the more important factor might be how much a dealership are prepared to offer you for your old car.
The new car market is highly competitive so a few local dealers will be fighting for your businness. |

The best time to buy a new car is before the 1st of March before new plates are released. Don't worry as the date has passed you get your chance again in August as September new stock is released so dealers look to get rid of the cars with plates 16 for this year as September the plate will be 63. I find these times the best to buy your car and I always ask for stock cars in stock as dealers slash the prices on these. Make sure you check the spec though so no nasty surprises as the car is already built and not made to order. For used cars the best place is the auction but make sure the person purchasing your car knows what they doing, you get the list before it goes under the hammer so you can check the car out and look at all the documents like service history etc.  |

not quite accurate, the trade in price is important but some dealers will give you an inflated trade in price but no discount. The important figure is the balance or "cost to change" figure. Assume two main dealers selling an identical new model
Which is a better deal?
Dealer price £10,000-£500 for your car or £12,000-£2,000 for your car?

Do u know much about CAP prices, am I right that the CAP price gives you the average price models of cars are making at auction ? I think over the past 3 months ? I ask because I am looking to buy a specific car in auction myself and have set up a trade log in with BCA which allows me to see guide pricing. |

Most dealers on new or newish fairly expensive cars won't give you a discount because you pay cash.
You have more chance of getting a better discount if you take finance as it goes towards the branch targets and also they make money on selling finance.
You can usually pay off the finance a week later if you wish ?
Providing there is extra cost involved in doing that of course. |

Hi. This is the male half. I have stopped buying cars myself and now lease them - I am now on my second lease car. It avoids laying out bucket loads of cash and if anything goes wrong they sort the dealer out as it is their car so it saves me a lot of grief. |

I want an Audi TT
Test drove one today and loved it but the dealers and others I've spoken too won't budge on price at all.
Maybe I need to wait till my car is sold to see how much I can get etc.
If any garages on here want a top spec BMW sport with no compression in the engine and a oil leak drop me a msg ha ha ha |

. Have you considered obtaining quotes for leasing one ?.Lease companies may be able to negotiate better terms . |
