I very really send messages to people I haven't chatted to and hardly ever with a face pic,
I sent 5 over the last few days with a face picture and different types of messages ranging from just hi, I like your profile to seen you on the cams a few times, There was more to the message of course,
1 replied and a little conversation,
1 read but no reply
and
3 not read,
To the Men, Is that your normal success rate with messages ?
And to the ladies, Does adding a face picture make a difference if you reply or not ?

I currently have 40 unread messages in my inbox, the ones from friends get read first 
However if I see the attachment icon, I wait until people are offline, and then look at the message, those without rarely get looked at. |

Lots of things depend on whether I reply ...a face pic helps if there's not much of a profile though ...distance, age, what the actually message me all goes towards whether I reply ...a biggy is have they read my profile. ..if they blatantly haven't I delete xx |

I very rarely reply to a message without a face picture on it. I wouldnt ask for a face picture without sending mine first as I would find it rude, but at the same time I'm not keen on sending them first in case they know me.
Ultimately if I had two messages one with face pic and one without the likely result is the one without would be deleted and the one with wouldn't be. |

There doesn't seem to be any pattern. To be honest I think a lot depends on the mood of the recipient when they receive it along with the content of your message? |

I say on my profile to send a picture if they dont they havent read my profile, well if i get a message and it doesnt say picture attatched i rarely open it. Also id never send a first message without them being able to see me its not blindate |

First message doesn't have to have a face pic for me.
Before reading message though i click into their profile. If they smoke, don't accommodate or are much further than 30miles away ill delete message without reading. I clearly state i wouldn't be interested on my profile. |

I always reply to messages that are worded nicely. Only ignore those that are asking for a meet at the drop of a hat. Definitely attaching a face pic will deem how many messages I will continue with.

Not read could mean:
They haven't been online since you sent it? (Don't know as you haven't said)
Your message has fallen off the bottom of the list as only the100 most recent are visible.
You have been ignored.
All 3 of these are possibilities |

scrolled down the whole sent messages page - 7 unread (6 were to single fems who get zillions of messages) that were first messages - 2 others unread but will be soon as regular chatters |

It's quite rare that I message new people now 'off the cuff' and if I do it tends to be off the back of a forum thread. On the whole I tend to get a high reply rate but I guess if I did a local search of non Forumites my response rate would be much lower.
I might try a few non Forum people over the weekend and see what sort of response I get - all in the interests of science of course! |

Not to the initial message no it makes no difference if you send a face pic. I reply based on the message firstly, secondly the profile. If I reply with some level of interest either send then or the lady can ask for it when they want. |

Admittedly none were local, One was a couple and nothing in their profiles stated that I wouldn't be a match, Well apart from being very attractive
But I chanced my luck anyway 
Even though it was just a message and not asking anything more, A social/meet etc |

Yes they have all been online,
And I gather they get hundreds as 3 of them go on cam, I was just doing a sort of experiment on different fab users and seeing if they respond,
I will try a few local none cam users next time,
Oh when I say experiment, I would of met all of them for their looks/profile text, Not like they are some sort of test subject

I suppose it was more to see if they replied when a face pic was attached to the message even if the face doesn't match what they are looking for, Maybe I should say face picture is included at the beginning of the message,
Also on average how many messages do you actually receive with your first message ? |

I never thought about "success rate". I just messaged some people I liked and they messaged me back...or didn't.
I had enough fun. Sometimes almost too much.
I never felt like I was failing because, in human relationships, it is all potentially a positive.

Very true.
If they've clearly read my profile and send a polite message, an attached face pic (or there's one on the profile), 9/10 they'll get a response whether I fancy them or not. Basic manners.

I used to reply to everyone, but when it's just a hi, it gets monotonous, so I just reply with a hi back..
The ones I get the most enjoyment from are those that have read my profile and sends a picture of their face..
Then you have something to reply to and indicates they may be a more thorough person in there dealings with you.. |

I don't ever think I havent replied to a message even if it's a no thanks. Sometimes I do get a little sarcastic when it's been obvious our profile hadn't been read.
I was brought up to be polite what more can I say. |
