About 6 weeks ago I had a laparotomy. Basically had a big cut about 10 inches through my abdomen. It did get infected but healing now. My question to anyone with experience how long does it take to recover? I am up and about now can walk ok the main problem is fatigue after about half an hour I'm exhausted |

It can take a very long time for your body to recover from the shock let alone the operation itself and add in to that an infection and you've had a lot to cope with. The drugs you will have needed will have taken their toll too. Rest, be kind to your body, drink plenty of fluid, feel the sun on your body and sleep if you can. However if I were you I would go and check with my gp just to be sure. Hope you are back to full strength soon |

^ weeks aint long, you need to give your internal muscles time to tie together and heal, exerting yourself to quick may end up with you giving yourself a hernia where part of the intestine pokes through the wall of your muscles
A good diet at this time is essential ensuring you feed your abs to recovery |

You Dont Need to Know, right now |
My sister had the same, and it really knocked her back, for about 3 months. She couldn't drive, lift anything, do any housework, the slightest effort exhausted her. I ended up moving in with her, as her husband and kids still expected her to carry on as normal - the only thing they did for her was take over walking the dog. Make sure those close to you know how exhausted you feel, and don't try to be superwoman. But do try to do a little gentle exercise - like walking - and try to raise your legs when you're sitting, to make sure you don't get any circulation problems. |

I had an operation just over 2 weeks ago. I had the same op but on a different limb 18 months ago.
It takes ages for your body to recover after any operation, the shock, blood lose, medication etc all take their toll.
I have cat naps every day, usually twice, i drink lots and do my exercises as instructed.
You need to allow your body to recover in its own time.
Good luck
