I think the first 3 of that list at least, were attempts to highlight racial, political and societal bigotry by using humour to lampoon stereotypical caricatures.

I think they worked pretty well and were often very funny.

But it wouldn't be allowed in today's PC hidebound times

I used to love Round the Bend. Kids magazine type show on citv with doc Croc and his rat friends. The puppets were done by spitting image and was way before its time. Had cartoons on it like wee man and thunderpants.
