So, I'm reading a book about English people, and it says that calling your room a "Lounge" is a distinctly middle class term. Instead, the upper classes prefer the term "sitting room." More formally, it would be the "drawing room," but the upper classes apparently find this to be slightly pretentious, so prefer "sitting room."
So I think the Lounge should be renamed "The Drawing Room" cuz the people here are slightly pretentious
What would you rename it if you could?

"To clarify I'm talking about re-naming the forum Lounge...I wasn't very clear on that was I? "
Oh, in that case it should be The Park. It's where you hang out and congregate while watching everyone else play on the swings. |

Talk to them? No thanks, I'll stick to books.
So, I take it you'd like to stick with "The Lounge" then? |

Lordy no. I've just moved oooop north from being a southern softy for years. There is simply no reason for the number of words for a bread roll. It's a roll. Although I do chuckle when I treat myself to naughty brekkie on a Friday morning as I have to ask for a sausage muffin - it's the little things that make me smile!
As for renaming our fab lounge, the fairground would be apt, or the lovely loony bin. |

Well mines at the front of the house so it's the front room, if it was at the back then it would be the lounge.
On here though I think The Den would be apt. |

Bugger me ...not literally! My mum n dad were well and truly working class....a joiner and a dinner lady.
Our front room was always called "the sitting room". Middle room was dining room. Kitchen and pantry at the back!
Not heard sitting room used by upper class! Drawing room yes (tho technically it was the withdrawing room as it was were gentlemen withdrew to after dining! |

I like 'The Snug' too. Sounds cosy.
OP why do you keep studying us Brits so much? Just what are you hoping to learn? I'm starting to get paranoid. |

When we moved here we read a lot if British history stuff.
Eventually that shifted to more Sociology and Anthropology topics.
We got a few books that I tend to read out to Marc while he drives. After a long car journey I tend to have all that British studies nonsense in my head and it applies very easily to the forums. So you all get to enjoy it, too |

One day I would be interested to know what you've learnt from all this study of yours. You never know it could turn out to be quite insightful |

Right time to settle this.
You say you've read up on British issues and the like.
So.......
The only important question left to ask is.......
Milk in first or last?
This is makes the cake conundrum look easy. |

I grew up spending most of my life in the sitting room - usually practicing the violin and stuff like that. The rest of the family were in other rooms. We had an old house that had been in the family for several generations and I guess the language followed. Now I live alone in a small place and call them nothing. |
