I found a stray dog this morning bounding around a big choc lab very bouncy but friendly , didn't have a lead with me and dog was so strong couldn't walk him to a vet holding the collar , so I did the only thing I could think of and put it in my freshly valetted squeaky clean car .
And called the dog warden who came along and took him .
Now I have a muddy wet doggy car
But a safe dog .

There might be some 20 something couple walking the streets shouting out "Cocoa, Cocoa", or whatever stupid name they've called it, then walking home dogless and crying into their beer when they realise that their mutt has gone awol
I had 3 generations of Border Collies, and they always were within eyesight when out |

Yes of course, OP has just said it was chipped, but unless you know your dog, why would you let it off the lead?
My dog would have put most of the cast of The Great Escape to shame, and was even caught red pawed attempting to tunnel under the garden fence |

its easy for a dog to escape, mine got off the garden the other week, i opened the back door and some twat had been on my back yard and left the gate open, i didn't notice at first just opened the door to let him out, when he didn't come back in i went to call him, still no dog, went out to find the gate wide open and no dog on the garden, luckily he was only round the front of the house but its easily done, he could have easily legged it had he wanted to, its not always a case of owners letting them off or neglect |

"With respect to both Diamond's and Naughty's replies, you really shouldn't let your dog off a lead until you can trust them implicitly.
Some breeds of dogs are more intelligent than others " i just cant see the bit in the thread where it says it had been let of a lead. Or are you saying if its escaped out of someones back door or been frightened it should of been on a lead in the house? |

I suspect this dude had done a runner from its home as was very boundy and excited so possibly nervous as wasn't sure where he was yet excited to be free. Looked like was looking for his home running all over the place so I'm glad I got him else I'm certain he would of been in an accident |

No, you don't keep a dog on a lead in the house silly
However, what I am saying is that if it is a pup that you have trained since "ownership", then you should have ultimate responsibility, as you would do to your kids? |

Kids escape too
And so do dogs
And kids accidentally let dogs escape
And so do owners
And some dogs see opportunities and go for it |

Tell me about seeking opportunities, that's why I had to be vigilant at all times until he was trained |
