So it's rather unlike me to feel down but I heard some news this morning that made me sad.
I was just driving home and I've killed a pheasant for fook sake.
now I'm just sat at the side of the road.
Today sucks.

I'm a vegetarian knitter , just don't like the thought of anything having to die for me to eat it .
And round our way , it's impossible not to run over a few pheasants every year .
Don't fret over it ..... It happens .
It probably would have been shot anyway . |

Sometimes it's difficult not to kill pheasants. They are extraordinarily stupid birds.
A brain the size of a pea has to control and manage the entire body.
Don't give yourself a hard time over it. |

Better you did that, then swerved to avoid it and something worse happened.
Have a brew when you get in and if you can, ring someone who will listen to your day and also make you smile.

They can only fly three feet in the air and insist on doing it over roads. Darwiniasm hasn't really set in yet.
If you can be arsed to pluck them, they are bloody good in a casserole.

I've hit a pheasant & squished a hedgehog with my car. I felt awful especially for the HH as it had nearly made it across a busy A road
Like Dee said above they are stupid birds & often get hit. |

I hope there's no damage (to your car obviously, rather than the peasant), a chap I work with hit a deer at Xmas and it made a terrible mess of his car.
Anyway, I hope you're feeling a little better now.

I've lost count of the stupid pheasants I've run over. I'm sorry to say I don't brake or swerve for them now as my life and other road users is more important than a bird. They can even be off the road and they just run under your wheels. Or you can slow and come to a halt and they won't move.. even for horn and flashing lights.
Obviously I'd rather not run one over but living in a rural area with thousands of them it's pretty impossible.
The first one I hit made me cry and someone had to take over driving! |

There's a lot of wildlife dead on roadsides at the moment .. Sometimes it's unavoidable ..it's not worth beating yourself up over it .. Someone might have been injured if you had slammed on your brakes unexpectedly and caused a crash |

Year before last, D told me there were strange noises coming from the front of her Clio. I opened the hood and couldn't see anything. Then I noticed the front plastic grill thingy looked distorted. D said "Oh yes, I saw a pheasant run across and thought I heard a bit of a bump. Then there were strange noises and when I stopped I couldn't see anything"
I got her to drop the car at the local Renault. Later they told us they had found a pheasant properly jammed behind the grill, still alive but sadly bent and died later. |

I hit one the other week... it flew more than 3 feet! . I then hit it again after it touched down, despite the ABS and stability controls attempts to help avoid it. Damnfool things.
I seem to attract suicidal pigeons. 2 cars, 2 windscreen impacts. One rolled up the screen, over the roof and into a tailgating BMW cabrio's cabin, who promptly lost the plot, coming to rest on a grass verge. |

"I feel crap if I hit anything too.
Maybe this will help though, in our local paper a man has died after a pheasant flew into his head and knocked him off hi motorcycle.
It happens both ways "
So I may have killed an entire pleasant family or saved a motorcycle driver |

Oh, memories. One girl at college came in, in hysterics. exactly this, also a clio. she'd left it running in the car park... of course, 4 or 5 of us went to help. Just as we got there, the cooling fans spooled up... messy... |

yep. It was not pleasant. damn front hinged bonnets made it worse.. virtual decapitation if you opened it, just like the 5, 9, 11 etc.
We spent the morning in the vehicle maintenance workshop instead of our lessons removing and refitting panels, and pressure washing it for her. grim!
mind you, these days I'm used to sinks full of blood and hearts/ lungs. . so... |
