Sexism is alive and well!

A well known window company has refused me a qoute without my husband being present. Because i will choose 'something pretty' and he will only have to come back again when my husbands in.

I'd have said something along the lines of "are you saying my husband doesn't choose pretty?"

Then you're doing them a favour because now they don't have to come back at all.

Is it because you jointly own the property? I had this issue during the process of buying my ex out & had to wait until in my sole name.

I've had this in the past, they want both parties to be there at the same time to close the sale as quick as possible.

Move onto the next company.

Had a surveyor come round to check on some cracks in the new flat. Even when my other half spoke to him he only looked at me when replying. Would only take calls from me.... Arse!

How funny. Don't they know the wife has the final word

I let my husband choose my living room wallpaper. He went for dusky pink and purple flowers and paisley pattern. Previous to that he chose a bamboo flock (Del boy endorsed). Then he brought home an orange mottle wide vinyl and started decorating the hallway. Eventually I put my foot down and bought a car load of magnolia paint.

I have gone into a DIY store and asked advice on what is best of the 2 items for the job i'm doing and the bloke invariably gives the answer to my husband who is standing aimlessly behind me, so I ask a follow up question and guess what.... he gives the answer to my hubby again, until he walkes away and the bloke has to deal with me

Nothing to do with sexism and everything to do with time management. If they come to see you alone there is a 99% chance that you will say ok, leave it with me and I will talk to my other half and let you know. If both parties are in attendance the visit by the representative can be finalised in the first visit because both decision makers are present.

Cockermouth

A few years ago now we had a "National' company come and price our windows and doors in the house we are in now.

He measured up - went away....came back about a week later and said 37K...........

We looked a bit shocked and said we couldn't afford that........after a lot of drivel on his part telling us how much they needed the work (so we were doing them a favour )........he knocked it down to 15K.........right there and then!

As a result i told him to fuck off out of the house and don't come back! If he could knock 22K off the price......grrrrrrr......some people must actually go with those quotes!!!!

Anyway - a couple of days later his manager was on the 'phone desperate for me to take them on.......I refused and got a mouth-full of abuse off of him down the phone!

So...as Holme Time says.........we went with a local two man band company who did it for 8K and we have engaged them on our new house we will be moving into, in about 6 weeks hopefully.

Do as Holme Time says and refuse to deal with the robbing barstewards.

I wish you were here in Cumbria.....i'd give you the number of "Bill the Windowman" (as we call him) lol.

We've gotten him loads of business and everybody has been very pleased with his work.

(I wish you were here in Cumbria for other reasons too of course fnaar fnaar....but........that's another story )

I suspect in this case, it is something else other than sexism. Businesses operate to make money and they setup their operations to make money more effectively.

If they're selling to a couple, they might have a policy of only making their sales pitch when both are present. I'm sure it is very common for you to sell to one person, only to have the order cancelled a few days later because the other partner didn't approve.

Or as some have already said, if it is a joint mortgage, then it makes sense to want to have the 2 owners of the property present.

I also know for a fact that some companies who send reps to people's houses have a policy of a male rep not meeting alone with a female customer and vice versa. Think of that what you will

I've had this before. Told him to get off my property and never contact me again. My sodding house, I'm the breadwinner and I'm paying the bloody bill. Bloody cheek

And as for those saying its time management I bet if it were the man in the house they wouldn't say things like that to him.

Can't understand the mentality in this day and age.
