I was in a Subway yesterday and they had a sign on the register saying they won't give refunds for sandwiches that have been eaten.
I laughed and asked the person at the register whether that is a common problem -people wanting refunds for sandwiches that were apparently good enough to eat.
She said yes Apparently people call up after they've eaten it and want a refund. I was honestly hilariously surprised to hear that. Who knew that was even an issue?

"what happens in a restaurant situation when people order food.. eat it then for some reason cant pay"
They are prosecuted for theft. Or more accurately the intention to deprive. |

Or they hear out the reason why they cannot pay and make a decision from there some people think they have enough money to then it's more and they have not got enough I know I have made up the missing amounts where they couldn't afford to pay. |

"worrying about petrol now.. its not like you can give it back
I guess just check you have the right amount of cash to pay for the petrol "
That's it. The offence is consuming product knowing you are unable to pay. There are of course genuine mitigating circumstances which can be considered. |

We went out Sunday, to eat after the Central London Social ... ordered, got no drinks and two out of three dishes wrong, perfumed rice for Mr, not to his taste, poppadoms were cold and the wrong rice for me. When I went up to the counter to complain about lack of drinks, I caught them popping the correct rice in the microwave. Had had enough and said I could do better with our microwave at home ... cancel the order. They said, no worries, don't need to pay for anything, even the onion bajis we had eaten. It was a real pity as not only were we starving and nothing else open, but we'd been eyeing the place up for ages and looking forward to it. No winners there ... |

"worrying about petrol now.. its not like you can give it back"
Made a few mistakes over the years at petrol stations. My local shell station actually has a form for it, you complete the details and the cashier checks them and asks for a form of identification and takes a registration number, they've got forecourt cameras to record you filling up so there's no dispute. Then all you gave to do is come back and pay them what you owe. If its some distance away and your not likely to be going near that place they can come to an arrangement about paying by direct bank transfer. |

"what happens in a restaurant situation when people order food.. eat it then for some reason cant pay" well on the odd time it happened it was generally people forgetting to bring cards or wallets and they just offered to pay when they got it sorted. Difference between cant and wont.
If someone complained about the food after eating the whole lot we would apologise and say it would of been rectified if they had let us know straight away. Genuine people complain in an intelligent way the others are just trying to get a free meal |
