So I am looking for help in clearing up visas. Is there anyone from Russia on fab who can help?

Basically I have a freind in Russia with a 5 year old daughter. We have known eachother through work since 2009. She wants to come and work in England and bring her daughter to live with her. We have been building up a relationship over the last 18 months (we used to date when we worked together) rekindling the flames so to speak. Now I want to go visit them and eventually bring them back to the uk with me but my god it's hard to figure out this visa crap.

You have to have tourist visa to Russia, it is easy to get but it lasts only one visit.

Not sure how it is with Russian visa to EU. But when I was living in Poland I used to have Ukrainian cleaning lady, and she was traveling back to Ukraine every few months to renovate her visa. So I don't think there is an easy permanent solution.

Unless you thinking of marriage

Sounds complicated...

Depends on the type of visa - travel, business, to live &c - you need but your first stop is surely to search for

visa for uk from russia

And go via www dot gov dot uk, rather than any dodgy agency that offers to do it for you for a fee.

But, as I'm sure you know, relations between the UK & Russia are not brilliant and visas are gonna be tricky.

Yeah it's certainly proving to be an upward battle at the moment. Me going there as a tourist looks like a possibility with relative ease. It's just going to cost £100-150 on visas before flights and accommodation etc. So it's quite expensive.

Coming the other way is weird. I did look at the marriage visa. If only for forward planning/hoping. But that seems to suggest that even if we were married she couldn't work or live here properly for a while.

I'd imagine a work visa is going to be tough unless she has some unique skills and a job waiting for her.

A spouse visa is pretty straight forward though...

Yeah. The whole world works like this, why UK should be different?

(I assume you are British citizen, not resident or so)

Yeah I am a born and bread Brit. I wouldn't mind the spouse visa but it would be nice to live together for 12 months or so before I pop the question so to speak. It's been a while since we were in the same room. We Skype 3 times a week but it's not quite the same

She could come on a tourist visa for a bit or you could go over there as a tourist but time isn't going to be on your side. Question is, do you feel lucky? ...

Tourist visa is your start point, last time I went to Russia it was £188, but easy to get as I was visiting friends.

You think £150 is expensive for a visa? The UK almost certainly charge more for most of their visas. And the hoops they make applicants go through, you wouldn't believe.

That being said, you should be able to get a visa to Russia as a visitor, but expect to go through a very frustrating process, and I don't know who told you it'll be relatively easy.

First, there's a never-ending form asking for things like a list of all the countries you have visited with exact dates in the past 10 years; details of past employers and managers, education history, insurance numbers, etc You'll need an official letter of invitation from your host and you have to go to some pokey office somewhere in London to have your fingerprints taken. All in all, allow 3-4 weeks to complete the process.

And if and when you get to the point of bringing the girl and her kid over, don't think you'll get an easier time at the British Embassy.

A UK visiting visa for her will be far from straight forward, even if you feel you have met all the requirements and provided all the required documents. Expect to send your bank statement and proof that she'll be accommodated. She'll also need to satisfy the visa officer that she intends to leave the UK after her visit. It'll be up to her to find a way to show this. By the way, she can't work with a visitors visa obviously.

If she wants to work, she'll need to find an employer that'll be willing to apply for a work permit. And this can only be done if the job she'll be doing has been advertised in the UK for at least 30 days and no UK or EU citizen was found suitable for the job. I'm sure you'll agree this would be unlikely.

If you get married, expect to be viewed with suspicion when applying for a marriage visa because more often than not, they'll think it's a sham marriage. And I hope you earn at least 25K per annum, because that is approximately what you'll need to show before her application will even be considered for her and her daughter.

Good luck

But other than that it's really easy

Her English is very good. We used to work together on Cunard Cruise line. At the moment I am just below that limit but in the next 3 months I should be making closer to the 30 mark so that shouldn't be a problem.

It's been a while so some if this may be out of date (and i's based on Belarus). Firstly getting a visitors visa for your friend will likely involve a trip to the embassy/consulate, your friend will be interview by a rep, who will need to see a demonstration of finances and reasons to return (to Russia), if your friend is not wealthy and owns no property then the interview will be difficult.

You may act as a sponsor, the best way to do this is to go to the embassy with your friend and present information that clearly demonstrates you can support her and her child for the duration of her visit.

Couple of notes. If your friend breaks the conditions of a visitors visa and is found out, getting a visa again is extremely difficult. You cannot apply for indefinite leave to remain until you have been married 3 years and you cannot marry a UK citizen in the UK whilst on a visitors visa (the registry office will demand proof).

North West

Mrs Hot is Russian but we met here in the UK and so did not have to go through the visa rigmarole. That said, she has friends and so is still in the know as to what is needed.

Unfortunately, the U.K. Recently tightened rules on spouse visas because of the number of sham marriages. Now you have to be quite a high earner to bring a wife in to the UK. As for going to Russia, the easiest way for you would be to get a tourist visa from a specialist Rissian tourist agency who will book your flights as well.

Best and easiest way forwards at least on a temporary basis would be to meet in a nuetral country. Historically that would have been Egypt, but not any more. Russians can get tourist visas for Greece and Spain relatively easy so maybe you could arrange a summer sunshine meeting. For the long term, unless you are a high earner - bringing them to the UK may be very difficult and you may want to both consider starting a new life together somewhere outside of the U.K.

Problem with Ufa is that she will have to travel to Moscow in person even to apply for a holiday visa

So she will. Russia is a big country.

Not as easy as some people think...getting people legally into to the UK...earnings are a huge factor...and they also will be should you decide to move to Russia
