Currently my resting hr is around 52. And I am unfit and overweight.
Just before I quit triathlons back in 2009 it my lowest was 43.
It's more about how high your hr stays after exertion that's more important.
If your hr stays at 160 ten minutes after stopping you have a problem |

I bought myself a Microsoft Band as part of my drive to monitor my fitness.
My average resting heart rate is 43bpm.
A couple of yrs ago i had a funny turn at work and the medic called ambulance.
Paramedics took me to Manchester Royal where the cardiac unit checked me out.
Apparently my resting HR fooled the machines into thinking i was having an incident.
The senior sister asked me if i did any sport, she looked disgusted with me when i said i did a little cycling!

My HR drops from around 160-170bpm to around 100bpm in the first 90 seconds after stopping a turbo session.
HR's can be as much about genetics though. |

One thing I've noticed though, is how much alcohol affects my resting HR, after drinking my overnight lowest rate was 58bpm. Quite a big step up from 43bpm.
Sorry, i'm getting a bit obsessed with the data from this band! |

will be a very long while before i get to any great fitness level..
but lower heart rate means lower chance of heart attack... i hope.

Yes, but don't get obsessed with the numbers, just because one person has a lower number doesnt necessarily mean they are fitter. Your genetics will dictate to a certain extent.
My max HR has hit 200bpm before now but it's not something i would recommend! |

Well done on your improvements, it's always great when we reap the rewards from our hard work.
Right at this very minute, just sat at the computer... my heart-rate is 53. First thing in the morning (according to my sports watch) it was 41.

Mine dropped to 38 the other night, but i suspect that was a misreading from the band. If that figure shows up again i'm going to the doctor, don't want to end up in Marco Pantani territory. |

Haha, yes, it can get like that!
I've had some booze today and now my HR is noticeably higher and i'll probably have a poor nights sleep. Alcohol doesn't do me any favours, i only had three pints at the rugby this afternoon! |

Just be mindful that it's dangerous to have a low heart rate....mine is low so sometimes I get really dizzy when it drops. I was asked at the hospital do I do loads of excersice and I was like er no lol...now I have to be carful when I'm doing my excersice it doesn't dip too low. |

Mines always sub 50 bpm well last 3-4 years anyway, the lowest has been 41 bpm, but I do a lot of cardio work , but previous posters are right many factors can influence heart rate but exercise is one |

I tried to do mine and it was 48. I usually have low blood pressure and electronic machines don't work on me. I don't know if I missed some beats because my pulse isn't strong enough.
You're doing really well Sas,keep it up |

"Do you notice it being that much lower, or more when exercising.
Miguel Indurain had a resting heart rate on 35 beats per minute."
its odd,, i feel just as exhausted but look at its 119 rather than the 140 it used to be |

i never realised my heart rate was so low until i got my new phone with a pulse monitor on it (checked it alongside a medical one at work and it matches it so its a true reading) - but i did go to the docs a few years ago with palpatations(sp?) and he said heart was fine but obviously it was going faster then than what is normal for me - im still here and healthy as fuck so all ok |
