I think maybe alot of people don't have much empathy for countries that have cancerous corrupt governments.
And because of that the innocent citizens often get overlooked as some how they are less deserving than other countries.
Not my personal _iew I may add !

No it's really very simple but Jo won't like the answer as it doesn't fit with his personal narrative.
It's been going on years and it's no longer in the publics psyche, in fact it's almost expected.. It was exactly the same in the UK in the eighties(and even today to an extent) with most ira bombs and killings, they very rarely made the news!.

I can only speak for myself but being from Great Britain I am interested if any people from these shores have been killed in the attacks. |

My point is that it'll be nowhere near as well covered than the Paris and Belgium attacks and I'm not just singling out Pakistan. This is just an example and I can more or less guarantee by tomorrow evening it'll be barely mentioned and I doubt anyone will be changing their Facebook avatar to the Pakistani flag. But it's OK. Pakistani women and kids are used to the odd bomb now and again, so it's alright really. |

Sadly its the world we live in .
Had it not been for the 24 hour rolling news we have now this terrible atrocity would have never made the news .
We only want to hear about things that happen in the west. Then we criticise the Americans for not having a great global interest.
It doesn't matter your race, sex, creed or colour mass murder is wrong , be it a terrorist bomb or one dropped on a hospital from 20000 feet in the air.
We have a responsibility to be nicer to each other . In the mass expanse of the universe we are all we have |

Dunno. It might seem cheap, but surely it flags up how news coverage should not show prejudice by valuing one life more than another based on nationality, ethnicity, race, or geopolitical importance?
In which case the OP is contending that these peoples lives should be 'valued' more?

Putting a slightly different twist to this story; I've just been reading the report online, and it appears that the intended victims were Pakistani Christians. So, it would appear to be religiously inspired, not nationality. |

Or alternatively, the reason it's become a mainstream story is because the targets were Christians.
Pakistan is a real basket case at the minute. Government/state corruption being the overriding issue that drives people to extreme ideologies. |

Most likely the in depth coverage will be in Asia.
As most in depth coverage of Paris,and Belgium,was in Europe.

I think the news stories are relevant to the country you live in. Tragedies in cities like Paris / Brussels will feel more relevant to the UK as they are near & European. |

It's too far to stick Kay Burley in a minicab for round the clock reporting. Much as I would like the bitch to fuck off and hopefully not come back.
For all the bile and vitriol aimed at the news agencies, think of the logistics of trying to get a news crew into a hostile environment half way round the world. For a one off story like this it ain't happening. |

There are loads of studies (Google is your friend) that suggest there is a racial bias when reporting such events. The reporting will be more visible in societies more like our own, regardless off distance.
So an atrocity in Sydney say involving 5 white people would get the same coverage as one in Paris, whilst 200 black schoolgirls abducted from their school in Nigeria and raped is reported in the ...and finally...section of the news.

You can find a racial bias in everything if that is what you're trying to do. How many times do we hear of mass shootings in America say, then the next day nothing about it regardless of the colour of the victims? And I seem to remember the Nigerian girls being all over the news at the time but when a story like that drags on and on with no change in circumstances then it will take less prominence in the news. |
