Best place for a break without paying the price for a proper holiday aboard? Considering Amsterdam though coming up for the same price as a fortnight some where else!! Only have 4 or 5 nights? Ideas?? |

Have a look at Budapest. Super cheap, loads of nice bars and restaurants, plenty to do.
But if you fancy something a little warmer then either Lisbon or Porto. Porto edged it for me - probably due to the local tipple! |

Just avoid the school holidays and you should get some bargains, have a look at sky scanner for flight prices and go from there |

Madrid & Barcelona - cheap flights, expensive hotels
Stuttgart, Nuremberg, Berlin, Hamburg - again cheap flights but hotels can be pricey
Budapest is a good choice + throw on a day trip to Vienna
Porto is lovely as someone already said plus day trips to Guimaraes & Braga which are both lovely historic cities.
Tarragona is lovely - only an hour or so train ride from Barcelona
Warsaw surprised me in a good way
Tallinn was stunning & take a ferry to Helsinki for the day.
Milan & Lake Como beautiful too and you can pop over to Lugano in Switzerland |

Can you give some more info such as when you plan to travel?
What do you want..sun or cold or doesn't matter?
Culture, history, good food or cheap drinking?
Where have you been before and enjoyed?
We could all list an armful of cities for you xx

I was going to suggest Lisbon and Porto too. Doesn't need to cost much. Lisbon is by the coast so can have a split centre break. |

If you do this, then take the train between the two
It's cheap, easy and a lot easier than taking a hire car

"If you find the right flights and accommodation, Florence."
I love Florence - so much to see.
Cologne is pretty and lots to see and do.
Seville - you forget how beautiful a lot of Spain is.
Depends what you like to see and do really.

Did a belter a few years ago..
Flew from Bristol to nice.
2 nights hotel with a very nice buffet brekkie included.
Night train to Paris.
2 nights hotel with a nice brekkie included.
Flight from Paris to Bristol.
With a friend and all for £162 each for flights and hotels.
My best ever bargain which I very nearly repeated price wise a year later pairing Bologna with Milan.
Earlier today I was looking at doing something involving Venice in may as only costs 19.99 for the flight I was looking at. |

Krakow 19 to 24 April
£95 each for the flight BFS return with Easyjet
£115 each for the hotel - think it was a Novotel, so mid range
City, loads of history, trips to Salt mines, Auschwitz, Carapthian Mountains |

When you pair places up sometimes you have to try them in reverse because of price differences and/or early late flight times in order to arrive early in the day and fly home late to maximise your time.
Rome is a brilliant one to do because trains are fast and cheap in Italy so it's easy pair up super cheap flights in and out.
Barcelona is my current favourite destination and I'm returning there in September the day after easyjets new season started and the prices dropped but it's still bloody hot.
What airports are good for you?
In order for me to do really cheap breaks it has to be from Bristol otherwise getting there makes it uneconomical plus I really enjoy the challenge.
One of my best bargains was a room in a lovely little three room hotel in central Rome for myself and a friend with breakfast included at only £16 each per night and we didn't even see the people in the other two rooms while we were there so had the breakfast room and lounge to ourselves.
Poland looks great and I've been highly recommended by friends to check it out for myself. |

Venice ~ it's the most beautiful city I've been too. Amazing food, wine & people too.
Otherwise I've enjoyed Amsterdam, Paris & Barcelona.
Heard good reports on Copenhagen & Budapest.
Another place I've always wanted to go to is Rekyavik.
Really depends on your budget & interests. |

Paris is marvellous. So much to see and romantic if you take someone with you.
Budapest is beautiful within easy reach of Vienna. The Danube at night is stunning and the old city of Buda has lots of rich history and great sights.
Copenhagen is also lovely with great sights and lots to do. Tivoli is excellent. It's easy to nip on the train into Malmö too.
Just to name a few |
