Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

Have you seen or heard 8 year old Toby Little speak about his book and his project, Writing to the World?

He started writing letters to every country in the world when he was five. He's now eight. He says very simply that he wants to make the world a better place and, when he says it, it is so sincere I believe him.

He's written 744 letters and received 321 replies so far. He's also trying to raise money for ShelterBox.

I really hope he remains as sincere and idealistic as he grows.

Did you ever do anything sweet, idealistic and inspiring as a child?

Glastonbury

When I was 6 or 7 I begged and pleaded, pleaded and begged to be allowed to camp out overnight in the garden.

Finally my parents relented.

They woke up the next morning and the tent, and I, had vanished.

Got bored in the middle of the night and went to another house down the road...

I was an impossible child. A favourite trick was to slip off when going shopping, go around the block a couple of times and hand myself in as lost. Just to see what would happen.

I can tell you feel pride in their decisions and actions - and so you should.

I know so many children and young people who volunteer and give. It gives me hope.

I think I mentioned you being incorrigible elsewhere.

Actually, OP, this'll make ya laugh.

Found a letter from Buckingham Palace, dated 23rd October 1983, thanking me for the picture I'd drawn the Queen.

Closet monarchist

Interesting use of the word "found" there.

I was a very good reader as a child and from about the age of 8 i used to volunter to teach the "remedial" readers who where older than me. I also was teaching my aunts sister who had learning problems from that age. I carried it on through secondary school and into adulthood volunteering at the local prison

I did find it. It was in with a bunch of early school papers that my parents left. I chucked most of it out but that caught my eye.

I've just sent a message to friend in one of the countries Toby hasn't sent a letter to help him get the whole world. I'm in a very soppy mood.
