I do think there is something to it. How much i dont know.

But us humans have seriously f**ked up this planet and ultimately we have to pay for it

shouldn't we all be dead now from the holes in the ozone layer? oh sorry another load of bollocks. the world is changing but it isn't down to us, its the planet doing what the planet does. was the last ice age caused by the internal combustion engine?

The core?

That's the only internal combustion engine that will threaten this planet with any serious damage.

I agree that the climate is changing but don't think that it's as a result of man's actions - tons more CO2 is released into the atmosphere from the sea than anything we could produce. Scaremongering tactics for stealth taxes and to keep large groups of academics making masses of money. Read what Michael Crichton thinks about it! Z

The Truth About Climate Change

Some extraordinary phenomena have taken place in recent times; Hurricane Katrina, the heat wave of 2003, polar bears swimming in search of ice and vast swarms of insects enveloping an African village. But are these isolated incidents or are they omens of a greater global change?

Sir David discovers that the world is warming at an unprecedented rate, and finds out why this is now far beyond any normal allowance for cyclical fluctuation. But are humans to blame? These changes are already in motion whatever we do now, but Sir David believes that we may be able to act to prevent a catastrophe. People around the world are having to adapt their way of life as the climate changes; the Inuit in the Arctic whose hunting is now limited, the Pacific island inhabitants forced to move as their homes disappear beneath the waves, and the Siberian homes slowly sinking into the permafrost. Sir David investigates some of the possible scenarios for the future, including rising sealevels, insect plagues and an increase in diseases.

Yes the world is changing but to my mind the only difference between now and other major changes is that humans now exist and we have the technology to be pre warned things are happening. Im sure when the ice age descended it didnt happen over night, nor did it disappear over night. I think sometimes we dont realize how old the world is and 100 years is like a grain of sand in time

one day its global warming the next its global cooling. I wish the warming would hurry up, i do not have any objections to kissing goodbye to winter.

I feel sorry for the polar bears but like sabre tooth tigers of 10,000 years ago they became extinct because they could not adapt to there climate change. I think Darwen mentioned it in his natuaral selection theory.

A bit back they were saying carry your shopping home in your arms because carrier bags are not environmentally friendly...surprise surprise supermarkets then mentioned they may charge 10p a bag. i dont think it ever got of the ground.

Global warming first espoused in the Thatcher years by a lone scientist then latched onto by Thatcher as an added excuse to break the miners and close down the pits.

Global warming became man made global warming then

Climate change than man made climate change then climate change accelerated by man then increased rate of climate change due to mans activities.

No doubt 2010 will go down as the year where the most snow fell in the UK for X number of years. Nobody will mention that it effectively had 2 winters in it as the 2010/2011 winter came early.

My conclusion then is that it is a load of bollox

if anything its the death of the bee's that should concern us.

global faking warming is just an excuse to make a fake economy

its been mentioned on the news but its a huge issue. the insects that keep the plants alive are dying.

the knock on effect will be catastrophic

the bee's die

plant's die

animals die

we die

well not all of us

mainly it will be the poor.

i fear not for myself but for my children and their children.

if the bees die then yes some plants will also die, but as said already natural selection will mean that the plants that dont rely on bees will thrive.

"A made made catastrophe or simply a lot of hot air to stealth tax us ? "

I`ll ask my own question ...

Is global warming fact or fiction...

The only sane ..rational answer is yes .....its a incontestable truth ....scientific fact ...

Whats up for debate is the cause..

Theres growing scientific independent evidence that supports the "theory" that theres a correlation between greenhouse gases affecting temperatures and climate change ....my two pennies worth ..

The Planet's fine but its going through its usual cyclical change as it has for 4.5 billion years

Will it kill off the human race in the process?

of course..one day it will.

hardly worth worrying about it,we're here for less than a blink of the eye,it's a bit presumptious for some of us to think the planet owes us something

Pumping crap into the atmosphere isn't good now is it?

So, in my opinion the questions irrelevant, we should be doing everything we can to save resources and not pollute the world as a matter of course anyway.

I`m well versed in the homily ..that in taking the `Eiffel Tower as a model fer comparism ...the human race equates, to less than layer of paint on its apex ....that isn`t a rational arguement for against anything ..with respect ....

Yuo`ll have to enlighten me on this cycular phenonema....thats increasing global temperatures by .16 degress celcius per decade ....curious..

The Milankovitch Theory..Yeah its just a theory but then so are all the others.Theres loads more about Atmospheric Carbon Dioxide Variations

Volcanic Eruptions and

Variations in Solar Output but it would take up the whole thread

The first cyclical variation, known as eccentricity, controls the shape of the Earth's orbit around the sun. The orbit gradually changes from being elliptical to being nearly circular and then back to elliptical in a period of about 100,000 years. The greater the eccentricity of the orbit (i.e., the more elliptical it is), the greater the variation in solar energy received at the top of the atmosphere between the Earth's closest (perihelion) and farthest (aphelion) approach to the sun. Currently, the Earth is experiencing a period of low eccentricity. The difference in the Earth's distance from the sun between perihelion and aphelion (which is only about 3%) is responsible for approximately a 7% variation in the amount of solar energy received at the top of the atmosphere. When the difference in this distance is at its maximum (9%), the difference in solar energy received is about 20%.

The second cyclical variation results from the fact that as the Earth rotates on its polar axis, it wobbles like a spinning top changing the orbital timing of the equinoxes and solstices (see Figure 2). This effect is known as the precession of the equinox. The precession of the equinox has a cycle of approximately 26,000 years. According to illustration A in Figure 2, the Earth is closer to the sun in January (perihelion) and farther away in July (aphelion) at the present time. Because of precession, the reverse will be true in 13,000 years and the Earth will then be closer to the sun in July (illustration B, Figure 2). This means, of course, that if everything else remains constant, 13,000 years from now seasonal variations in the Northern Hemisphere should be greater than at present (colder winters and warmer summers) because of the closer proximity of the Earth to the sun.

The third cyclical variation is related to the changes in the tilt (obliquity) of the Earth's axis of rotation over a 41,000 year period. During the 41,000 year cycle the tilt can deviate from approximately 22.5 to 24.5°. At the present time, the tilt of the Earth's axis is 23.5°. When the tilt is small there is less climatic variation between the summer and winter seasons in the middle and high latitudes. Winters tend to be milder and summers cooler. Warmer winters allow for more snow to fall in the high-latitude regions. When the atmosphere is warmer it has a greater ability to hold water vapor and therefore more snow is produced at areas of frontal or orographic uplift. Cooler summers cause snow and ice to accumulate on the Earth's surface because less of this frozen water is melted. Thus, the net effect of a smaller tilt would be more extensive formation of glaciers in the polar latitudes.

Periods of a larger tilt result in greater seasonal climatic variation in the middle and high latitudes. At these times, winters tend to be colder and summers warmer. Colder winters produce less snow because of lower atmospheric temperatures. As a result, less snow and ice accumulates on the ground surface. Moreover, the warmer summers produced by the larger tilt provide additional energy to melt and evaporate the snow that fell and accumulated during the winter months. In conclusion, glaciers in the polar regions should be generally receding, with other contributing factors constant, during this part of the obliquity cycle.

Computer models and historical evidence suggest that the Milankovitch cycles exert their greatest cooling and warming influence when the troughs and peaks of all three cycles coincide with each other.

Karl Popper has the defining take on what constitutes a theory ....Is gravity still a theory?...

Ah ...I thought this might come up ...

I was expecting the El nino-La Nina ...or Pacific Decadel Oscillation ...both tenble theories ...

I like Lovelocks theories ...in line with S. Hawking ...

Whatever it is( the cause....and its gathering momentum).. its worth noting that in the last millenium ....the years 2001- 2010 are the warmest on record ....The Kyoto Agreements are working towards a 2% threshold ....thats a mean average global warming of 2%...thats going to have serious consequences ....think anyone could agree with that ....climate change is with us ...

Just as an aside ...I really don`t give two fucks ....the planet doesn`t hold a view ...it`ll carry on ....Life will ..

I just like science ...evolutionary paleaontology...and science per se ....and other esoteric interests ...

Global warming is a fact ...its curious to me when people contest that pyschlogically speaking ..

Extremely complex....takes oodles of time to sort out a balance, and that so subjective s`well ..narrow viewpoints don`t paint a full picture...

I approach the global warming thru the best evidence I can find ...thats the organisations or instituions that I trust, and their common theory that its greenhouse gases ...its seems the best theory to explain the evidence of global warming ...

Governments if they choose to believe instituons like the IPCC..have to make provision for it ....hence taxes ...take the Netherlands who are on a mad rush to build coastal sea defences ...with the swelling sea levels ...its costing untold billions...I s`pose similar will happen here...primarily around Norfolk ...

No doubt ...its a chance fer stealth taxs ....our local govenment is trying to find money fer its carbon tax ...wether thats a good example ...I`ll leave fer others ...

Ultimately I don`t see it as a global conspiracy by governments worldwide to jump on the bandwagon with the thought to generate a new revenue source ...just seems fancical to me ..

I haven`t come across evidence that convinces me that its a natural phenomena....those its hard to really know ...those lie on a solar level ....we`re aware of what they are ...but no evidence suggests they are the cause of the effect ...

Anyway ...seems you find it interesting ...like dark matter lol..so do I ...saves watching shit tele, whilst we`re in ....
