The top footballers get paid so much because it is big business, there are very few of them (the top players) and the money generated by fans prepared to fill the stadiums and paying for Sky ensures that THEY (the players) are the assets of the business.

No different than having the top performers at a City firm earning the top money.

Business

Correct - the footballers wouldn't earn the vast sums that they do if the income that they help generate wasn't enough to cover it.

Proper football match from the two most attractive teams in Europe. England have got to build their team round Wilshere.

Shame the second leg's not for another three weeks.

There's not much worse in this world than a woman that doesn't like football... and knows even less about it... making comments on it.

There's good and bad in all walks of life... good footballers with exemplary off-field records as well as bad ones, and good and bad soldiers - like the ones who beat up, abused and photographed innocent Iraqis (remember them?) - should they be on footballer's wages too?

Go and watch a local Sunday team down your local park at the weekend and see how truly awful they are, then go and see a Premiership game and marvel at just how good they are - then you'll know why Sky pay so much to show them, and supporters pay so much to follow them, and fans buy their shirts whenever they change them.

Lastly, show me a young guy who, when asked "would you like to earn £50,000 per week?" replies, "No ta, that's way too much, £500 a week will do me nicely."

Yeah but most of those teams will never win the Premier League again. It's not that much more competitive than Scotland. The title's between United and the Arse this year, just as it's Celtic and Rangers in Scotland or Barca and Real in Spain. Personally I find that far less interesting than in the 70s and 80s when a decent team with a genius manager could come straight up from League Two and win the League and European Cup like Forest did.

I couldn't agree more.

Brian Clough WAS a footballing genius and if the fookin FA wasn't run by the bunch of self-centred egotistical twats that were running it back then Cloughie would have been England manager and we'd have won the WC a couple of more times than once!

all haill the mighty Cloughy.

merino, morano, merillion or whatever his name is.

Cloughy was an enigma who if given the chance would have made England the greatest team that had ever been.

the day he retired from forrest was the day the game changed.

the closest we have now to Clough is Wenger.i know he's french and moans to much but as long as people like him that believe in the beautiful game there is hope.

now wheres my copy of champ manager???

i agree and he hasn't spent 600 million gigillion quadrillion euros on a team but all of that is irrelevant.

when birmingham city win the title next season and the champions league the season after it will herald a new golden age of football.

well more a ginger age as our manger is big eckh after all(scottish to those that doont speek weegan)

"The top footballers get paid so much because it is big business, there are very few of them (the top players) and the money generated by fans prepared to fill the stadiums and paying for Sky ensures that THEY (the players) are the assets of the business.

No different than having the top performers at a City firm earning the top money.

Business"

Sad but true
