We found love in a hopeless place

Jump to: Newest in thread

By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

This thread was sparked by another thread and I thought it could be a bit of fun. Love can creep up on us in the strangest places and turn out world inside out momentarily, for a while or for a lifetime. When and where it happens seems random, though some of us may try to be systematic about seeking connection, relationships and love.

When I thought about my experiences of 'love' finding me, there was a strangeness to all of them.

My first happened was at a bus stop.....meeting a girl, I'll never forget, that was my first love albeit only for a short while

The next time was at a convent .....

The next was in a University Chapel....

The next was at a house party....

And the final one was on an Internet forum.....

Only one of those has stood the test of time, but each deeply affected me emotionally, created an attachment to the other person for a period of time and had the possibility of blossoming into a long term relationship, but timing, circumstances and lots of other factors contributed to whether it flourished or not. Each of them I have very fond memories of, that will last a lifetime.

What weird and wonderful places has love found you?

I've never been in love. I've never looked for love. I've never been close to finding it or it finding me. I won't lie though, I do long for it. My heart feels like a very empty place at times.

I still hold out hope though. I'm of the firm belief it will hit me when I least expect it.

I agree on not expecting it. In all of those cases above I was not expecting it, and three of them not really wanting the complication of it finding me

"There is no such Love, but there is affection passion respect which form the word Love."

Perhaps. Love is a word that human beings have made up to describe a set of emotions and feelings that they found hard to describe any other way. My experience of love is no doubt different to yours, to the point that you deny it exists. Fair enough

I fall in love freely, but I cannot think of any weird and wonderful places offhand - I have nearly always just formed new relationship from among a group of peers in whatever social group I was in, eg through college, or once or twice the internet.

One exception was a love affair that came about because I spotted a guy who looked like Robert Redford in a wine bar on New Years Eve, so I made sure I just 'happened' to be standing by him at midnight...

This post resonates with me.

The first time was in army barracks. The blokes lived downstairs, the women above (Longcross Barracks, MVEE, Chertsey). I was 19 and fell for someone who couldn't reciprocate.

The second time was three months ago and it goes beyond love, I have had a pain near my heart since the day I saw him on an escalator, outside Starbucks of all places, the world really did stand still and my heart exploded.

We can't be together and that REALLY hurts.

So how did the relationship happen? What caused it to last seven years?

Oh I don't know, I think there's something romantic about the idea that as one person who was loved dies, another love is born. Endings and beginnings seems appropriate to me - but I am weird

I found love in a DJ podium in a local bar in the North East eighteen years ago, the sexiest most beautiful girl I'd ever seen walked in with a tiny denim skirt on, legs all the way to heaven asked me to play "Barbie girl" I told her to fuck off and we've been together ever since

I remember listening to a radio show with listeners sharing their stories. Many didn't find love until their 40's up to their 80's.

I once found love at the vets. With a person I hasten to add!

You don't have to be in love to be willing to sacrifice your life for others, but it is a good criterion in my mind for love.

Back where I belong

The first time was with my then boyfriends best mate, we ended up being married for nearly 30 years. It took 20 years for my ex to forgive us. The second time was through the internet, when we met my knees almost gave way and my world turned upside down - sadly it was not reciprocated and i have never known physical pain like it. Xx

Yep being there at birth of my son was most definitely, for me what I would describe as, the most powerful feeling of love I have ever experienced and as you say, it never goes away. I can't even imagine how powerful that feeling might be for a mother

Most recently? The entrance to Temple Meads train station. I smile every time I go through there now despite all the numpties with no spatial awareness getting in my way.
