Straight away the attention turns to Islam, there is a big difference between Islamic fundamentalists, and the guy who works morning till night in his shop, do you think that guy wants to see an Islamic state in Britain? No he dosnt, do you think he wants to see an end to Christmas? How do you think that would affect his off licence?

It's fine to hate extremism, but let's not forget that for the most part Muslims are law abiding citizens, and hating them is like hating all white Americans because of the kkk, or hating all Irish because of the ira.

Don't get caught up in the media sensatiinalism, these are trying times, let's stay calm and try to be reasonable

However, sadly they DO use religion as justification for the cause - eg in the case is ISIS they say the West is anti-Islam so Muslims should stand up together against it. So it's too simplistic I think to say this has nothing at all to do with religion when religion is used as the catalyst to convert people to the cause.

And this isn't just an anti-Islamic post, religion has been used as a justification for war for centuries by all faiths, none more so than the Christian faith. Do people say the Spanish Inquistion had nothing to do with religion?

Having said that of course the extremists are exactly that - extremists. As with any religion the vast overwhelming majority are peaceful law abiding citizens.

Oh dear. We can't just express sadness for the loss of life without turning this into a conspiracy theory, islamophobic, xenophobic paranoia party?

Some people will take any opportunity to push their paranoid/bigoted agendas. Using such a sad event for that is in very poor taste.

As someone else has said, people have lost loved ones. This is not a game.

You can't stick your head in the sand like the proverbial ostrich forever!.

These people have fundermentally held religious beliefs, whether we like those beliefs doesn't stop them being held.

Islam is just 800 years behind Christianity in evolutionary terms, if you think back 800 years to Christian Europe, you get an idea of what to expect!.

We made an awful error with our solutions to 911!,I belive they call this blowback in the military, it's here for awhile and won't get better anytime soon.

This is what happens when Western Europe's leaders (and most of the public) are spineless leftist pacifists. The reaction to each attack has been to start screaming about how wonderful Muslims are, light a few candles and sing a song in a town square - no detterent whatsoever. There's a reason Israel hasn't been attacked, because they know that if they tried it, they'd be turned in to ash the day after.

You've read "their book" have you? Or are you regurgitating what you've heard from other Islamophobic sources.

Have you read the Christian "book" and seen some of the things that instructs?

Correct but we're trapped in a rolling news cycle.

The same images of exploded buildings and victims will play until the news editors (and us) have nothing new to talk about, so then ensues a grisly rush to the bottom in terms of what might have been, what could happen elsewhere, bullshit bullshit.

Bottom line: we don;t know enough.

You've read "their book" have you? Or are you regurgitating what you've heard from other Islamophobic sources.

Have you read the Christian "book" and seen some of the things that instructs?

the IRA were not all Catholic and came from both sides of the border and the rest of GB. The troubles in Ulster spread right back to 1916 which were politically motivated. Bloody Sunday was a culmination of events which started with government backed persecution of Catholics.

I've been in a lot of airports in the last two years all around the world. I can't remember being serched going in the main door of any of them. Actually people walk in and out the front door all the time for a smoke. It's only after you check in and go through security that your serched.

In all of of those examples it has been infighting between warring sects of Islam, Sunni v Shia - they have been killing eachother for thousands of years, hardly comparable to people being shot/blown up whilst going about their business in a civilised western country.

It's like when the enlightened left embarrassed themselves on Facebook by ranting about Lebanon and putting Lebanese flags as their avatars, when the victims of the Beirut attack were Hezbollah, a known terrorist organisation who has killed thousands of innocents.

I don't think we value different human lives differently. The difference is - it's an airport that many of us use. It indicates that it could be "ISIS" again - although I realise that is a suspicion not a fact. And we know - they will target London and that could directly affect us or our loved ones.

I don't not care that people have died in Libya or Iraq. Just as I don't not care about those who die in a car accident or of an illness today.

I'm just more shocked I guess - as it seems to keep happening and they keep upping the anti.

Atrocities like this really hit home when you recognise all the places being shown on the news.

I was born in Brussels and lived there 20 years. Maelbeek station was a 2min walk from my house, I used the next station every day, and I flew in and out of Zaventem countless times.

My sister was about to get onto the metro to go to work (Schuman, 1 stop from Maelbeek). Her boyfriend called her saying 'there were issues' with the metro, so she didn't.

I remember when facebook implemented the "I'm safe" status after the Paris attacks, and they've done it now for Brussels. 37 of my friends are on the list.

This is so surreal.

This is so surreal.

Just heart wrenching. Thank goodness they're safe. "

Thanks, luckily everyone is.

Had my sister's bf not texted her saying there were 'issues' with the metro this morning, she probably would have been on that metro, as she works up the road from Maelbeek station

You don't see Muslims doing it either. They're murdering fanatic animals who have twisted a faith into something unrecognisable and are using it as an excuse for violence and bloodshed.

Incorrect. They most certainly are Muslims.

Most Muslims would tell you what these murdering scum are doing is not in accordance with Islam at all.

They're sick fanatics, not Muslims..

Most Catholics denounced the IRA, its still factual that the ira were Catholics!...

Look if we went back just 70 years the most dangerous religion would have been Catholicism which had aligned itself with fascism in Europe!.

We defeated the fascists and forced the "church" into serious reformation into its long held beliefs about homosexuality, abortion, marriage, secularism and intolerance!.

This will be a long long fight and not mostly for other Muslims and Muslim countries not westerners!the IRA were not all Catholic and came from both sides of the border and the rest of GB. The troubles in Ulster spread right back to 1916 which were politically motivated. Bloody Sunday was a culmination of events which started with government backed persecution of Catholics.

NONE OF THIS IS RELEVANT ON A THREAD EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES FOR THE DEAD AND INJURED IN BRUSSELS "

"Reports of two explosions in the departure lounge at Brussels airport "
can't say I'm shocked anymore sadly when I read about stuff like this, my condolences go out to those who died and their families it's been a pretty bad few weeks and they targeted an airport too some where open and public what with this and the attacks in Turkey too. Sadly the turkey attacks none off the arse holes in the media gave two shits about what was going on there.

let me rephrase, they didn't give it as much attention or thought as they have other attacks because it is more or less a regular occurrence so over time people begin to care less and they don't make as much of a big issue with it. The Brussels attacks will mean more stepped up security measures/levels across Europe and but it will be far from the end unfortunately it's only going to get worse and more tension will rise as time goes by instead off die down.

"How anyone could get anything into an airport these days is beyond me "

Quite easily, no security checks till after you have checked in, but still plenty of people to target.

Agreed the sadness of the situation has really hit home that it could have been me if I was there today rather than tommorow

I feel terribly sad for the people that have died and for the family's

For me I heard the news on the way to work, first panic was that I was due to go tommorow, how many people have died, how safe is Brussels

So how have the Turkish media reacted towards the attacks in Brussels compared to the attacks there?

"

probably the same it's a give and take they probably are not as bothered either, when attacks like this sadly happen in the EU or America/Canada etc or Australia it's mainly shocking because in more or less countries like them which are seen as civilised the shock factor is more wide spread and frightening. However in the Middle East or parts of Asia when it happens the violence becomes so bad and regular and the situation is messed up people become desensitised to it/numb and expect it so the shock value is less in a sense that is just the world we live in. Point is when murders happen end off it's never good.

"

15 dead the other day in an attack in Kabul...

22 in a suicide bombing in Iraq the other day...

200 in a car bombing in Libya...

Or is it simply the case that those places are further away?

In all of of those examples it has been infighting between warring sects of Islam, Sunni v Shia - they have been killing eachother for thousands of years, hardly comparable to people being shot/blown up whilst going about their business in a civilised western country.

It's like when the enlightened left embarrassed themselves on Facebook by ranting about Lebanon and putting Lebanese flags as their avatars, when the victims of the Beirut attack were Hezbollah, a known terrorist organisation who has killed thousands of innocents."

I think you are getting you facts mixed up yes they have been fighting between themselves for thousands of years but civilised western societies didn't start getting blow up until said civilised western societies went over and start blowing them up and as for you facts on Israel ..Israel gets more terrorist attacks per month than all these western societies combined

I'll mention this to the many colleagues and friends I have of the Muslim faith who work for the NHS - doctors, nurses and other professionals who dedicate their careers to caring for and saving the lives of British people
