It is true that the length of your thumb base on the inside of your hand and to the tip of your pointer finger is (usually) the length of your thingamabob. the width is usually twice the width of the thumbs when standing tall, or once when down.
there has also been some studies that say the 1/4 your forearm is your thingamabob, and then 1/4 the thickness of your arm is the thickness.
