My old school used to seek them at break time, there was always a massive queue

Try this;

2 pieces, (brown is better) do like fried bread in a lidded fry pan with half olive oil/half butter until nearly toasty.

Slice of gouda or havarti and slice of ham between the two slices, put lid on and leave for 2 mins turning once. When the cheeeze starts dribbling out it's done.

I also like to put an excessive amount of black pepper on the cheeeze but that's not everyone's idea of fun.

I am fond of cheese and bean toastie, but when the beans fall out of the toastie, it is like eating the lava out of a volcano!

"I made a toastie after reading this thread.

I want a toastie now that I've read this thread.

I've been on a binge eating day today, mostly as a way of staying awake. Now it's bedtime and I've stopped eating I don't feel sleepy anymore.

Noooooooooooo, there is a way to eat a toasty, you can't just RAM it all down in one.

First, to have to nibble the extra bread off, then cut it into two halves, then you have to bite the two corners off, the ones at the end if the long edge that was the middle if the toasty.

Then blow through the toasty to cool the filling, then and only then you can eat the rest if it.

Repeat until either you have finished your toasty, or run out if bread lol

"Mine is a flat plate one so I only have to wipe it clean once it's cool "
It doesn't seal the edges then. A proper toastie is all sealed all around the edge to hold in the cheese and beans.

I have one with removable plates... but the cheese oozes around the edges, and underneath and inside where all the heating elements are, and it's a nightmare to clean that bit.

Ps. TOP TIP - butter the OUTSIDE of the sandwich before putting in the machine!

Cheese beans and corned beef. Coat outside with a thin layer of cooking oil not butter/spread x

Northampton

A twist on the bean toastie.. use a spoon to make the beans into a 'well', crack an egg in (or whisk one egg and spoon half into each toastie), pinch of salt and pepper.. nom!!

Cheese and onion - grate the onion, and spread it on the inside of the bread before adding cheese. Gives a lovely sweet taste with an oniony hint
