Any Fabsters have luck with Premium Bonds?

Interest rates aren't worth much at the minute so it seems quite attractive, but the odds are probably like playing the lottery.

Daniel Craig didn't reply to my message. Still waiting for Roger Moore to get back to me.

I'm fairly certain I've read that the investment yield on them is so damn low you'd be better off doing other things with your savings.

They say the return on average is 1.35% but thats tax free... of course the tax on nothing is nothing... Santander have a good rate on accounts at present.

It depends on how many you've got.

I bought £10k worth 15 year ago and for about 5 years I would get a £50 'win' nearly every month. Then they changed it to £25 after the crash and it dried up to a win, possibly, every other month or less and I considered cashing them in.

I'm sure I could have invested the money better in fact I bought a Rolex about the same time which has doubled in value.

You need about £5k at least before you get regular wins. As the poster above said, I used to get regular £50 a month wins, then it dropped to £25, and now just a few per year.

Still, I might win one of the 2 £2M prizes that are awarded each month, and at least I can get the full value of the investment back whenever I want.

Yep ..most months. I used to get £50 wins back before £25 came out I still get wins the most was a 500 but since sept I have had 250 in 25's (3x25 )in feb.

I do have a fair few but interest is so abysmal may as well hope for the big one one day.

Apparently fine wines have performed very well as investments over The last 10 years, plus they can be drank if they don't do well.

The best investment by far over the last 10-15 years has been classic cars, just wish I knew this before getting rid of my 60's MGB

They are set to pay base rate or there abouts. Low interest rates = low payouts.

Sure I read that if you have the max allowed you average 13 wins a year. No risk and you only need one half decent win. Yes you can get a couple of percent in a bank account but you know that's it, with bonds you might get 1-2% but then you might just win £10k or a million!.

If it's only a few hundred quid or even a couple of grand I wouldn't bother tho

I've got £5000 never won a penny.

You can get good interest rates if you are willing to open multiple accounts.

As someone said earlier, where else can you gamble on winning £1 million and get your money back. We get fairly regular £25 cheques and the odd slightly larger one. I've invested in other savings and lost money so I'm happy to keep mine.
