Just booked my hols and decided to book early for a parking space at east mids airport.......nearly £50.00 for a week.
They have you by the short and curlies as a taxi to get there and back would be around £65.00.
The airlines/ travel companies should have a voucher system where by if you book with them its either included in the price or at least heavily discounted.
It wouldnt be so bad but its nearly miles away from the air port no so bad going but coming back around midnight and freezing cold brrrrrrrrrrr.

£32.50 one way in a taxi can't be a very long journey,,,,,,,, Can't you enlist the help of a friend to drop you off and pick you up...?

It's the airport that sets the parking charges, it has nothing to do with airlines or tour operators.
If airlines/tour operators adopted such a scheme as you suggest, you can be sure the cost would simply be added to the cost of your flight/holiday as otherwise it would impact upon their profit margins. |

Well, are you up for an interview for airport manager? You know the cost. If you do not like it, find an alternative. Or do not pay for it. |

We're flying from East Midlands in July & thought the parking was very reasonable.
Sometimes it's cheaper to book a hotel for the night as parking included - means you don't have to get up as early!! |

Would you expect the cost of your travel to be included in the cost of items you purchase from shops or in the cost of a theatre or cinema ticket? Why should buying an air ticket be any different? |

Sorry I assumed the Would have made the sarcasm clear. I was referring to the utterly ridiculous suggestion by the OP that flights should include vouchers for parking |

Is that parking at the actual airport? Are there not places nearby that do the park & drop you off in a minibus thing? I've always done that coz it's been much cheaper. |

The airport would not allow the voucher system, if there was something like that it would be added to the cost. |

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound |
There are companies that sell individual parking spaces as "investments". They've got to make their money back somehow.
Book ahead, look for the deals and it's usually fine. You're paying for the convenience of only taking the little terminal bus for a short trip and not public transport for a long trip.

Hmm seems pricey . I've booked a week of parking at Edinburgh Airport for £22. I drop my car and they drive me to the terminal just 6 min away. Bargain.
Not often you can say that about parking in Edinburgh |

I managed to get a hotel room the night before for £50 for an early morning flight and they had free secure parking for the time I was away (4 nights) and dropped is off and picked us up at the airport.
I was pretty happy with that. It was only £10 more than the parking would have cost. |

I always book the Meet & Greet option. Not much more expensive than off airport parking or a taxi ride & you have the added bonus of having your car waiting for you at the terminal on arrival. |

Most airports are becoming more profit orientated, so airlines giving away cheap car parking spaces could see them lose money. Why do you think such airports like stanstead, Gatwick, Luton have removed the hour waiting bays. So you pay the airport £5.50 an hour for parking. |

Everything is now at a premium, if you want to park at the airport you will have to pay. Unless you want to slum it on the bus.
As for the valet parking type service that meets you at the airport and parks your car offsite, there have been countless stories about this, I suggest you check them out first. I would never use one again. |

It's even more of a rip off when you land at 9pm in Bormingham and go and pick up your car ready to drive to Bristol to find that your car (which was working perfectly when you left it) is now not working any more and you need to be towed back to Bristol.
Airport parking wouldn't take any responsibility for it, said it was like that when we left it (so how did they manage to move it from short stay parking to long stay and back again?) and car was written off at our expense.
Never again!!!
